Battlefield 1’s first paid DLC will be launching sometime in March, and it is all about the French. Aside from four brand-new maps (Verdun Heights, Fort Vaux, Soissons, and Rupture), there will be a game mode called Frontlines that plays like a mix of Conquest and Rush. Two tank vehicles, the Char 2C and St. Chamond, will also be playable, as well as a new Elite Class: the Trench Raider. Finally, you'll be able to get your hands on a novel stationary weapon, the Siege Howitzer.

They Shall Not Pass also adds the French army (whose soldiers wear blue uniforms), as well as a new mode called Frontlines. This is described as a mix of Conquest and Rush. In terms of vehicles, They Shall Not Pass adds the Char 2C tank, which is based on a real tank. It is a new behemoth-class vehicle that DICE says can be used to "turn the tide of the entire battle." Another tank, the St. Chamond, is added with the expansion as well, while a new Elite class called Trench Raider comes to the game. A melee-focused class, the Elite Trench Raider uses a "Raider Club" and has access to an "impressive grenade arsenal." A new stationary field gun, the Siege Howitzer, is also included with They Shall Not Pass. It can be fired by any infantry player.

By this time I think BF4 had like two DLC's out. BF1 needs to hurry the hell up.

So on the first mission they surrender... then they wait for the English and American armies to rescue them :D:D
Funny, but Battlefield 1 is about WW1, not WW2, and the French army was some of the biggest badasses of WW1, to use the modern vernacular.

Yeah I know but then, its still funny.

Actually I don't recall the french winning a war after 5 de Mayo.

Although it is taking longer, seems to be a more robust DLC then BF4 had. Excited to see this, current maps are getting a little boring so I find myself playing other games.

I'll be honest I was super hyped for Battlefield 1 and defended the hell out of it, but having tried to get into it for a couple hours twice now I'm thinking it's not for me. I don't know the balancing is weird. It seems like because the engagement is so close quarters I just spawn and die over and over. Gets really tiresome.

I completely agree. And I would add that there seems to be a lack of vehicles, and I hate the BF4/1 spawning system where you spawn in a vehicle instead of an HQ style base.

With how long this has taken, it's almost like they forgot about the French army until the uproar over the fact they forgot about the French.

BF1 had DLC within 4-6 weeks of release. BF1 will get it 5 months into release.

I think BF1 is a good game.... Just not the Battlefield I wanted. Not to say I wanted the same old stuff... But the new engine that they used just doesn't make it feel like Battlefield to me. I got easily bored with the maps. They looked gorgeous as hell though I will give them that. But the classes just seemed very bland to me.

Mmm poor France if the US wasn't so closely tied to english routes and WWII never happened they'd probably retain their military pedigree. Then again it's their fault we got into vietnam so fuck em.

Not only that, but when the British Army was destroyed they fought more or less alone (although with Russia in the East) for a good number of months. The French won the first major battle against the Germans, which ultimately resulted in Germany's loss.

As for the DLC, I found it a bit odd that they were not included in the base game. Not sure if I like the game enough to buy the DLC, even at $25. I'd probably do it for $10-15, but I don't see the premium seasons pass going that low anytime soon sadly. With luck, In Country Vietnam will be released by then and it won't suck.

Edit: If anyone should get any crap for being poor war fighters, it should be Italy. Their invasion of France in 1940 was a massive backfire despite grossly out numbering them.

The French have an army?

Indeed they do, as a matter of fact their aircraft carrier (only one in the world fully compatible with US carriers I might add) is currently involved in fighting terrorists in the Middle East

Oh and a few years ago the french army kept Mali from becoming a terrorist state:

Oh and closer to the subject at hand hundreds of thousands of french soldiers gave their lives in some of the most horrendous battles of WW1 such as Verdun

And a bit further back they helped this one country (might have heard of it) gain independence:

When I read the title "They Shall Not Pass," it made me think of the Maginot Line, and subsequently how the Germans went around it.

In regards to the game though; are their really lots of semi/full auto weapons inside BF1? I'm so used to Red Orchestra 2 fps style where majority have bolt actions, and only certain classes (SL, Engi, TL, etc) allow the use of fully-auto / semi-auto weapons.

Yes, I was being sarcastic, it was aimed at WWII actually but yeah they have a rich history for sure..

Except it's not funny. Over 1 million French soldiers gave their lives.

OK so...let me guess, you are attending College and one of those people who kick comedians out for violating your safe space right? You've been triggered for a race/nationality/religion you don't belong to but need to address your "privilege" so look for things that aren't there?

Or, protest so violently against opposing view points they don't get a chance to have their say?

Or, it wasn't funny and I missed it?

'they shall not pass' reminds me of Fellowship of the Ring and Gandalf's famous line to the Balrog

For all we know he is French. I'm not French, but it does get fairly old after a while because they didn't surrender in WWI. They did the heavy lifting on the entire Western Front and equipped the late arriving US with equipment because we simply didn't have much of anything. And against their advice, we blindly charged in using antiquated tactics which got Americans slaughtered wholesale. It would be like saying the Americans are surrender monkeys, because they lost WWII. It is so far from the truth it just isn't funny to begin with. Besides, if France/Germany went to war today, Germany would get pounded into dust. So we may as well be making jokes about the Germans, because their military is 3rd rate. :p

Back on topic, they should have been included in the base game. If it was a WWII game I can see them being omitted, but WWI just seems so awkward to not have them present.
