Basic compressing

I am trying to record ingame gameplay using Fraps, compress it and upload on YouTube.

I'v tried to compress the coverege with Windows Movie Maker, but the result was a video with black bars all around it, even thought it was recorded as HD. (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGoORwMdcSI )

So i thought, it has to be the shitty Movie Maker, so i tried sony vegas. The result was the same... again black borders/bars.

I am new to this things, so excuse my noobness.
 
use AVS for quality with simplicity.

Otherwise grab handbrake.
 
All the apect ratios of youtube videos are different from the 16:10 resolution you converted. Youtube shows videos in 4:3 or 16:9 ratio. There will always be black bars from the difference.

You can try converting the video to 1920x1080, which will add borders to the sides, before uploading. You won't get full resolution if you were hoping for that since youtube doesn't support 1920x1200 video. BTW. What is the highest possible resolution accepted on youtube?
