i was looking to replace my 1700 with a proc that uses FSB 333

i couldnt decide between a tbred 2600+ FSB 333 or a barton 2500+ FSB 333 does the extra cache help out alot in games?

i woundering which one performs better in games.. any help is greatly apeciated.

Having extra cache never hurts and can only improve performance. If those are your choices I'd go with the 2500+. The 2500+ is 1.8GHz whereas the 2600+ is 2.08, so you can see how the 512K of cache on the 2500+ kept it's rating just under the 2600+ with it's extra 300MHz.

The cache should help on multitasking but on things that depend on raw clock speed, the t-bred should be a tad faster

the 2500+'s should be real easy to OC so i would recomend getting one of those with the extra cache and OC it pass the 2.08 of the 2600+

i need a a i wont be OCing it becuase for soem reason Generals continually dies with OCed FSB its ridiculous which is the reason im gonig to replace my 1700+ hopfully

The 2500+ overclocks well, but if you don't plan on it, then it is a much harder choice. I'd take the 2500+ regardless.

If you're not going to overclock, then grab the 2600+. If you plan on overclocking, then take the 2500+.

If you could find a JUIHB DLT3C 1700+ (0310XPMW or 0310WPMW) are the best steppings and most easily overclockable, that would be ideal and the most economical obviously. They are pretty tough to find now though.
