Awesome Gmail/Apps backup tool!

Is this a Google product? Why would one need to back it up when it's a web based service?

Because not even Google/Gmail is infallible, and some horrible mishap is always possible, so... it never hurts to have local backups of your emails if you're so inclined and just in case you happen to be disconnected.

Google, Gmail, and most anything else is only as useful as your ability to get online to access said services in the first place... right?

I guess. Thanks for the info Grentz.

It's pretty safe to assume that anything stored on gmail is safely guarded against anything but nuclear war. Though that doesn't cover user error (deleting email and then wanting it back).

I wouldn't be so naive. Not only is GMail is still considered BETA, but data loss has happened before (http://www.oreillynet.com/xml/blog/2006/12/gmail_disaster_google_confirme.html) (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061230-8524.html) and could easily happen again. I think it is extremely wise to make backups of anything considered even slightly important and so my thanks go out to you OP for shining the light on such a nice little app!
