Thursday was a sad day for the automotive world when it lost one if its most prolific inventors and designers. It was announced on Friday that Carroll Shelby, the mastermind behind the iconic Cobra, the muscled-up Ford Mustang GT500 and the Chrysler Viper has passed away at the age of 89.

The one-time chicken farmer had more than a half-dozen successful careers during his long life. Among them: champion race car driver, racing team owner, automobile manufacturer, automotive consultant, safari tour operator, raconteur, chili entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Very sad indeed. I take the kids to the Shelby Cafe at the factory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway all the time. If you get a chance check it out. Food is pretty good and the memorabilia is awesome.

This is a sad day indeed. He always seemed to make sure his name was good and used in a respectible way. May you be resting with Jesus. Thank you for the great advancements in the multiple industries you served in.

Damn,

that is one cowboy hat that is unlikely to be filled again

RIP

Maybe now we can all stop dreaming of gas guzzlers and start dreaming of a future where out children aren't fighting for oil.
