i have no idea if you can, i bought it, had it connected and just upgraded to an iphone 4s.
if your interested, call ATT ask them what info you need to find out if you can unlock and ill provide whatever info you need.
 
you need to be an ATT customer and if the phone is off contract they will unlock it for you for free. All you have to do is connect to itunes and restore it. Im not an ATT customer.
 
i switched from ATT to Verizon, and had to pay the cancellation fees, so this phone is definately mine.
 
Pretty sure you need an active ATT account that isn't under contract. Just find a friend with one.
 
I honestly do not know what the rules and regs are for the unlocking, so any input is appreciated.
