The bios increases the volts, so they overclock more. Its not like just overclocking an XT.

Get at least an X1800XL, even though its around the same speed the features make up for it Bro. You will want SM3.0 around now. Even better get an X1800XT.

oc'ed the x1800xl's are BEASTS. 7800gtx cant touch a x1800xl oc'ed IMO

Well I cant speak from experience about that nor do all OC to the same levels but I take your word for it.

One better... XTX for $505 shipped; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102671

Its OEM, but for that price, I wouldnt care.

Holy crap, I was pondering ordering a new graphics card but I have decided to wait till the 7900 cards are out to buy something, and prices seem to have already droped by 30-80$ since a couple days ago, this is great news as it will save me some money, or possibly get a better card if the 7900s are any good, if not I'll go with ati, their performance has been impresive and I want a good computer soon for Oblivion.

If the 7800GTX 512Mb does go to $399.... there are going to be some pissed off people who paid 2 x $800++ for theirs!! LOL

I almost bit on one for $750, but I said HELL NO, thats just encouraging them to up their prices. So I went with the 7800GT!

I think they are just flat out pulling them off of the market.

Why would you do that? The X1900XT is way slower at almost everything, and you'll lose all kinds of money on the sale of the GTXs?

What are you smoking. The X1900XT blows the 7800gtx 256mb out of the water.

And the 7800GTX512 Phantom Edition, in some games.

His signature says he has 7800GTX SLI. His post says he's selling his 7800GTXs to buy a X1900XTX. Note the plural nature of "7800GTXs".

The only game I know of where one X1900XTX can equal 7800GTX SLI is FEAR, in the others the SLI wins, often by a lot.

So he's going to sell his faster 7800GTXs at a loss to get one slower X1900XTX. If that makes sense to you, I probably wasted my time typing this.

I think this whole last gen is the quickest to drop prices in a long while. The 7800GT plunged from $450- $300 in less then 6 months, soon to be ~$200. The X1800XT from $500 to 250-300 in 4 months, the X1900XT drops over a $100 in a month?!?!!?
Freakin amazing...
Unless you paid top dollars for those and then you myst be feeling pretty stupid ;)
I think that if this rate of development and release keeps up I might have to sell my wife in order to keep up.

False. Usually loses by a small bit, and there are several games where it dominates the 7800gtx's in sli. Also, considering that he could probably get at least 325 each, and considering that the x1900xt is $475, he actually makes a profit

I know what you wrote and I still don't think it's a dumb decision. If he's going to sell his cards, NOW is the time to do it. As soon as the 7900 series of cards are out, then the 7800 series of cards are going to be worth less.

What this means is that somebody out there will be willing to pay alot of money for each of his/her 7800GTX cards. Your rebuttal still doesn't take away from the fact that one X1900XTX card is alot faster than one 7800GTX 256mb. This is without even going into the features that X1900XTX offers like HDR+AA, angle dependent AF, and just overall kickass image quality. I know because I upgraded from a 7800GTX 256MB to a X1900XTX. It's a big leap IMO. I can play COD2 at 1680x1050 with all of the bells and whistles and the game still runs very smoothly. Very impressive IMO.

does anyone know when these price drops are expecting to happen?

Gentlemen we are back to the $499.99 top of the line videocard. Horay to the annihilation of the F8&*&) $699.99 videocards. :D :D Bless you ATI for your amazing push lately you have made my world grand again!!!

do you realize half of those are comparing TWO x1900xtx to ONE 7800gtx?
The 7800gtx isnt far behind the ati cards. not at all.

Maybe you could link us to those "several games"?

When I look at the latest Xbit review, at the 16X12 4X16X benches I get 6 wins for the X1900XTX and 12 wins for the 7800GTX SLI?

What about the X1900XTXs "wins" though? Here's the difference in framerates on their "wins":
.3,2,1,6,7,3fps. So on HL2 and Project Snowblind you get a difference that has a chance of meaning something at 6 and 7fps.

What about the 7800GTX SLIs wins? Here are the differences:
28,8,11,10,14,10,21,9,11,16,17,30fps. Pretty big differences here, aren't they?

As far as him losing money goes, just because he can sell two cards for more than he'd buy one for, IMO he's not coming out "ahead".

The performance isn't even close on most games, and he paid much more for the GTXs than he can sell them for.

HDR+AA is only an issue for Serious Sam 2 and FarCry, and the AF isn't that much different. (yes, I've seen both and the reviews say the same)

i dont concider only takeing the pictures from anouther site, where they are all high ass resolution, a great comparison.. why not take some low resolution pictures?.. cause the GTX512 owns in low resolution, thats where the speed of the cards are really compareed... not how many shader units.... of course the XTX is going to own at higher resolutions... but comparing the 2 at lower.. the 512s faster....and more people play games at 1280 cause of thier LCDs... so why are you showing 1920

Sorry, XTX > 512MB GTX in almost everything. And sometimes the XTX is a LOT faster than the 512MB GTX.

you don't spend 500+ to game only at 1280x1024, if you do and you are stuck at that resolution then you have the option of turning on AA, and AF to their extremes, and who shines the most in these area's? it is currently ATI especially in single card form

.. and to think... I had a 7800GTX 512 on pre-order for a week ...

then I finally cancelled it. Thank gawd!

most of those benchmarks show SLI 7800GTX beating or equalling a single X1900XTX

the x1900xtx won/tied 5/10, the gtx's in sli won the other 5. Considering that the x1900xtx is $300 cheaper than a 7800gtx 256SLI set up I'd venture to say that the 1900xtx is a better deal

I knew all along that ATI was jacking us on the price just because it was the new hot thing. Glad to see the prices are finally going down, but even then $500 still is a lot for a graphics card.

Then again I am a cheapskate, I was freaking out that my 6800nu was $190.
