asus RT-AC66U vpn PPTP problems!

Hi,

I using my asus rt-ac66u router to run a pptp vpn server. It's just for people from home to able to access office shares, templates files etc.

Everything works perfectly once the user is connected. The problem is the connection part.

Basically, a homeuser using win7 (vpn connection is setup in windows) fails to connect everytime UNLESS i do the following:

While talking to them on the phone "...can't connect again...blah" I will access the asus router control screen, go to the vpn pptp server settings and click 'apply'.

The router will show %complete, applying settings etc. After that, the connection works and will stay connected all day. But I have to do that every single time.

I've tried merlin firmware and the latest asus firmware, same result. No clue what is causing this and it's starting to drive me bonkers. (i.e. I'll buy something else if I know it will work)

I have a qnap NAS which has a vpn server, but it never allows incoming connections to access other ip's on the Lan.
