ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution @ [H]

I just picked up the P6T6 WS Revolution and cannot get the machine to POST with all 6 DIMMs installed (12gb). I have an OCZ 12gb kit of PC3 10666 ([email protected]). The machine POSTS and runs just fine on 3 sticks of RAM. I've even swapped the ram with 3 other sticks to ensure one wasn't bad and it also boots fine.

Just curious if anyone had any suggestions as to what might cause this issue? I've reset BIOS defaults and also adjusted the DRAM voltage slightly without success. Running the latest BIOS.

Thanks!

That ram does not appear to be on the QVL, you might just be unlucky and picked the wrong mobo and ram combination.

Unless someone can say they have that ram working with that board, I would try return it and get different ram.

You know I noticed that after the build as well. Oops. :) Thanks for taking the time to check. I might put this kit up for sale and try one from the list unless there are other suggestions.

Thanks again.

I was looking at the WS Revolution for a prospective build and thinking of pairing it with some Mushkin memory.

While looking over the Mushkin forums for any complaints related to the WS Revolution I did run across several people asking for help in running Mushkin 12 GB kits on Revolution boards. They were advised to increase the DRAM voltage in the BIOS to 1.7V to compensate for voltage drops that result from the load of running 6 DIMMs.

Here's a link to their forums: http://forums.mushkin.com/phpbb2/index.php

A search for "revolution" will bring up a couple threads relevant to what I described.

This may not be the cause of your problem, but I thought I'd offer.

What is the S3 resume bug?

I know S3 is a sleep mode thing, but I never turn my computer so I dont think this will effect me.

can i put a sound card in this?????

i am only going to do geforce 260x2 sli. sorry for the silly question.

I have 12g dominators adn I have to hve 1.3qpi minimum to be stable but I can always post etc with all voltages on stock. I have no poblems with my 12G I even have them for sale on my for sale thread as I might get Dominator GT's etc.

Asus Support sent me the 0501 bios after complaining about S3 resume. Seems to have fixed this and is very stable. If anyone would like, I can post it online.

Have had mine now for a few months and it's still working nicely. Haven't gotten around to overclocking though, been too busy. :/

hi

im going to build a new PC this week and was about the place my order on Rampage 2 Extreme till I saw this thread.. since the prices are the same, can someone please tell me which board is better?

I am planning to keep the PC for another 3-5 years, gonna buy a GTX285 first then add 2 more cards later on. I am not a big OC fan, the system will be air cooled.

thank you.

So far I am happy with how this one has been turning out. I haven't run in to any issues yet except for a weird thing where Windows reports 3GB of RAM available and CPUz reports 6GB... (It is 64-bit Windows XP by the way)

Edit: Now Windows shows 4GB. I don't get it.

Ordered one of these from newegg as an open box. Just received it today, it was in a sealed box from Asus RMA, looked up the number on the box and it appears to have been repaired! I guess that's better then getting a return that was "tested" by newegg...

Can't wait to see how this system compares to my x3 720BE. Not expecting much improvement for gaming but hopefully it's pretty noticeable otherwise.

Have you got the latest BIOS installed? If not, I would start there.

My board arrives this week but as im currently a resident at the Milwaukee County Jail....i wont get to throw this puppy together for a few more weeks :p

System Specs are as follows:

i7 920 DO SLBEJ batch b
ASUS WS revolution mobo
6 gb kingston hyperX 2000mhz 8-8-8-24
2x crucial SSD 64 GB w/ windows 7 pro 64
Corsair h50 in push pull with 2x magma 64 cfm fans
Corsair 850hx PSU
1x Caviar Black 500gb for cold data storage
3x XFX GTX 260 core 216 @ 712/1584/1284
and of course my trusty 24" 1080p sexy monitor

I want this thing to tear apart whatever i throw at it....im hoping it can do just that.
I'll keep you guys updated with progress, fyi im not in jail for a crime i commited, but for obstruction of justice for not ratting out a friend. :p

if i ask ed what would you buy between the p6t6 and the evga classified what would be better?

...im running on air but cpu is on corsair H50 water kit
...using 12gb ddr3
....will be upgrading from sli to triple sli after christmas
....cuda (seti) and games with some video editing and normal every day stuff

evga has no nv200 now so whether that effect things as i know p6t6 nv200 sucks power and have a lot of heat

only thing really dragging me to the evga is the option to keep my xonar sound card with triple sli while p6t6 id have to sell.

what would you choose ? ... to make it simple for you ....use games / cuda which is best.......p6t6 or classified

Does the NF200 present any latency penalty in a single (dual slot) video config? In general, does it add latency to any device connected to it?

Yes it does. It adds additional switching overhead to any traffic on the PCIe bus, so it'll always incur latency.

Bummer. I'm sitting on a P5E64 WS EVO. The P6T6 was the logical upgrade path until factoring NF200 effects. I'd like to see more data before I decide which platform route to go.

I got my P6T6 back in February and was the time it everything said the board had a 12GB RAM limit, and I have noticed now that it's 24GB...is this due to a board revision or BIOS updates? Couldn't find the answer anywhere else.

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone had problems with the external SATA connectors?

I have a Vantec External SATA enclosure that I have already replaced and I am once again having problems with two external SATA drives.

I don't have another system with eSATA ports to test this against but it seems weird that I'd have two external enclosures stop working with eSATA and have one identical one continue to work.

at the time I think the max DDR3 you could get was a 2GB stick so 12GB was the limit.

The thought of spending $1,600 on memory has me ill:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226100

Well my manual says 12GB and I have never seen a manufacture limit the board memory because no one makes a stick of RAM that is compatible.

Additionally for that RAM you linked you, I wouldn't spend it either...that's why I bought three of these..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145200, and plan to wait until I can get 24GB for under $500 before I pulled the trigger. Just wondering if anyone has a early 2009 (bought my in February) board has tested with more then 12GB.

Bleh, got the system up and running but i got the ASUS patented CHASSIS INTRUSION FATAL ERROR,,, Tried everything including resetting the CMOS, rebuilding the rig 3 times to make sure there were no shortages and still get the error. Its in the HAF 932 case which has no chassis switch and i checked the jumper, reseated it, tried different jumpers etc, I guess ill have to RMA the board....ugh i hate ASUS customer support. I'll stick with EVGA or gigabyte from now on.

eh? can't you just go into the bios and turn off the alarm for chassis intrusion? or will it not let you into the bios?

Unfortunately on the ASUS WS boards there is no option in BIOS, only the damn jumper on the mobo, and if that is bad...hence my current situation, i sent the board out for RMA last week so im hoping to see it back just after the new year.

Okay so i got my RMA and its the newer revision board, P6t6 WS Revolution

I think i accomplished my initial goal and then some, set nvidia control panel to overide
and turned on v-sync 32xQ AA and 16x AF and cranked all textures up and played RE5
for 6 hours never dropping below 60fps and i love it. Unfortunately the board refuses to run my ram at the rated spec of 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 but i knew that might be an issue going in.
I can't use my old OC settings for the vid cards because without the breathing room they cause alot more heat than they did before. Otherwise im sure i could get a bit more out of vantage.

I just built around a P6T6 with the following and am seeing an S3 issue:
i7-975 no OC
Mushkin 998677B 3 x 2GB (6 total)
Sapphire 5870 100281VX-2SR
PCPower S75QB
WD1001FALS x 2

If I set the memory to 7,7,7,20 1333, on S3 resume CAS (CL) is set to 4.
If I set the memory to 6,6,6,18 1333, on S3 resume CAS (CL) is set to 7.
If I set the memory to 7,7,7,20 1066, on S3 resume maintains the CAS (CL) setting at 7.
I realize the higher mem FSB speed is technically an overclock and that my processor is only rated for 1066 but other than the S3 issue, 1333 runs perfect. It seems like a BIOS setting issue but how does one get ASUS interested in fixing that?

The irony here is that while I never use any sleep or suspend modes on any of my hardware, anytime I've tested these features or left them on accidentally, I've never had a problem making them work flawlessly.

same here..

fwiw, I am running dominator's @ 1600 and my sleep mode works ok. It takes a little while for it to cycle through my array but once that's done it's on the login screen.

Yay, I got this after my last post and S3 resume with correct settings:

As an update, the issue seems to have been corrected by clearing CMOS with jumpers and re-entering settings. Maybe some funky artifact left over from 0507.
