Hello,

I purchased a Asus S500CA laptop from TigerDirect on BF for my GF. Everything was working great until yesterday. All of a sudden, no matter what I do the laptop boots to the BIOS.

I have reset to defaults, even made sure if any of the keys on the keyboard are stuck/sticking. Nope, same damn issue!

Tried to re-flash BIOS but you cannot re-flash for same BIOS version or older BIOS. :sigh:

I contacted Asus support and they said this is a "known issue" and it needs to be RMA'ed. They said they will pay for shipping.

My GF REALLY loves the laptop and wants to keep it. However, I have heard of RMA horror stories and scared they will screw it up more. TigerDirect said they will give me a full refund but they cannot do an exchange since they are out of stock of the unit.

Appreciate any feedback.

I would RMA personally. I have never had a single issue with Asus and RMA service. Actually I have had the best luck with them.

Return for a refund.

ASUS has said it is a known issue. This means that the laptop is flawed from the get-go. Don't take the risk. Buy her a new laptop during Christmas sales.

If they admit the issue it is not the normal Asus RMA situation.

You will get a random other RMA sent back to you, though.

Can you get some sort of guarantee from ASUS that they will send you a revised / fixed model if you RMA?

I played around with the BIOS settings some more. I finally resolved the issue!

The following settings must be changed:

1) Security Tab > Secure Boot Control must be Disabled
2) Boot Tab > Launch CSM to Enabled

Oddly enough, I googled "Launch CSM" and came across this from Asus. I don't even have any USB devices connected to the laptop, I only replaced the HDD with a SSD.

Must be some kind of bug? Everything seems to be working fine now, so I plan to just keep it with those settings.

Thanks for support guys!

id return it. Consumer grade laptop gonna consumer.

I've never had great experience with TigerDirect customer service. But overall they seem to get fine reviews online. If you have problems in the future and communicate with anyone there I'd recommend keeping written records until it's over. Screen cap chat logs & keep emails; confirm/clarify anything that they may try to bring up in the future, ex, "So the laptop will be returned, and I will be refunded $XXX.XX. Will there be any associated charges or fees with this process?" etc. It took me 3-4 hours in chat to deal with a $20 discrepancy. It's what sends me to newegg or amazon whenever prices are close.

Black Friday + ASUS + TigerDirect = disaster

I like TD but only for NEW stuff, not refurbs.
