Asus EAH4850 modified bios (160/500 clocks, decerased noise of card)

For all who doesn't know how to modify Asus bios. This is a bios already modified by me. Bios have corrected 160/500 idle clocks and fan speeds to decrease heat and noise of our cards.

Use Ati Flash or ATI Winflash to flash the bios.

Moderator please sticky this post. I think it will be useful for many people.

I'm getting the card but....why would you want to decrease the idle clocks so low ? i don't get it

At idle only. I have mine at 125/500 idle.
The bios are manufactuer specific though, you have to use some command to use a dif manufactuers bios.

Because at idle you really shouldn't need much out of your video card. For example, if you're waiting to pick someone up in your car would you keep your car in park/neutral and constantly rev the engine? No, it's a waste.

Well, you would if you had a sweet car but I'm sure you get the idea. :D

Apparently the new version of RivaTuner, with support for 4800-series is very close to release. I think that's preferable to modifying the BIOS, potentially killing the card in the process.. Unless you're dual booting with Linux or something of course...

Can you permenantly kill a video card with a flash gone wrong? cant they still be flashed by popping a PCI card in or doing a blind flash? dont get me wrong, I am sure you could if you tried, but I was under the impression that it is pretty hard to kill a video card by flashing - unlike a motherboard.

you are correct, but not many of us still have a working PCI card. (although everyone SHOULD!)

I had a flash gone wrong on a video card... but couldn't flash it back. atiflash wouldn't see it no matter what I did.

it reduces the power usage, some dudes at techpowerup demonstrated that after lowering the memory clock the card uses 30 watt less power at idle, you get it now?

It seems TPU VGA bios collection has some new 4850 BIOS out, weird that these do not have the lower idle speeds. I modded the original Asus BIOS for lower idle speeds (160/500) and flashed with atiflash. Also lowered the idle voltage from default to 0,95V.

You can also use a PCI-E card if your motherboard has multiple X16 slots. Just put your working card in the primary slot.

Did this lower your temperatures further? I wondering If I should flash my Sapphire again to a lower idle voltage.
