ASUS 7970 DirectCU II available now

No doubt about it, it's what we ordered :D

why hello thar.

I'm at work, so I can't do much with it (yes, I snuck in my HAF 932 to work, lol) but I managed to complete a run of Heaven, I don't think I ever heard the fans but then again, i'm surrounded by servers and networking equipment, so it's not exactly a quiet setting, but I did put my ear to the case :\

Max temp during the run was 65c and according to afterburner the max fan speed was 29%. I'm in love.

Kind of interesting, Newegg shipped me the entire box Asus shipped to them. They took off the DHL and stuck it in a box and shipped it to me. lol

OC'd to 1125mhz, bumped voltage from 1075 to 1.1.

After Heaven run: Max temp: 69c Max fan speed: 33%

Does Asus upgraded VRMs eliminate coil whine?
I hope so. I'm planning on using a waterblock and I cant stand coil whine. I think people will find out after a week or so. At least in my experience I alway notices mine after its been used for a little

The higher the Asic the lower the volts and better overclocks. Also seem to run warmer. Good trade off though lol. Lower asic seem to have higher stock voltage not OC as well yet run cooler. Definitely leakage related.

I thought theoretically higher leakage = better chance at max OC under water, LN2, etc

perhaps i I am incorrect but thats what i have seen on my cards.

My 73% card runs much cooler and much faster OC versus my 84% card.

wouldn't mind some better explanation of asic... mine is 85.6%. stock volts on the card is only 1.05. core seems to oc like a champ... memory seems very dependant on fan speed though.

Any sites review this gem yet? Wondering how it compares to the Gigabyte card GV-R7970OC-3GD that HardOCP just reviewed.

based on [H]'s numbers, the DCII is cooler. I have no way to measure sound levels, but since my DCII is extremely quiet, i'd say at worst it's a wash, can't imagine Gigabyte's card being quieter.

[H] Gigabyte test
Stock @ Load
67c @ 34% fan

My DCII
stock @ load
65c @ 29% fan speed

Of course, many different variables so this is no way proof positive, I do have a cold office. 72F. Not sure about how the [H] torture labs are setup.

I got very similar results except with stock voltage - this card overclocks like a champ - much easier than my reference card. I brought this one up to 1125/1575 without even breaking a sweat just using CCC and +20% power setting. I had to fight to get my reference card to 1075/1125. BTW my reference card had a very high ASIC (86%) while my new DC2 has 76% so I'm not sure of those saying the higher ASICs are easier overclockers... at least not in my experience.

wish i could get two amazon updated my ASUS HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 order 3 to 5 weeks :eek:

what's your stock voltage on yours? mine was 1075mv. I actually didn't test my OC at stock voltage just because I assumed it needed a little bump. I'll try backing down a bit tonight.

I've got to look into that a bit further. At first it looked like 1050mv, but it appeared to change in GPUz to 1075mv??? As much as I've read, I still am confused on which monitor will give you "actual" voltage... any thoughts?

Just jumping in to say that this card along with my Sapphire Reference worked perfectly well (after a small fix to the display properties of the game) in BF3. Metro-sized maps showed 70-110fps and then Karkland was showing about 50-70fps with Ultra settings and no AA (wanted to see before adding extra crap). Resultion is 5852x1080 (after bezel adjust) and the game looks great and smooth even across the wide expanse. I do heart my switch to 120Hz monitors.

I am considering purchasing this card when it's back in stock, does the DVI to HDMI adapter that comes with the unit also send audio out? For now, I just want to connect it to my TV.

just got this card and installed it
got to max slider no problem
max temp of 68c on heaven bench run
voltage was reading from 1.06~1.07 on asus tweak app

Where'd you order it from? And did you tweak the voltage at all?

I got my 7970CUII at 1225/1700 @1.25cv /1.7 mv

My XFX DD Black OCs at 1200/1650, so the CUII is not really that much of an improvement if any. However, I bought the card because it has four displayport outs and permits me to run my portrait 120hz eyefinity panels at full resolution and full refresh rates.

The fat bitch doesn't leave much breathing room for itself between the Black card on my mobo:(

What are your temps for the ASUS in crossfire configuration? I'm curious as I want to crossfire two of them.

Holy crap you weren't kidding. What are the temps like on the DCUII? Which of the two cards would you objectively recommend?

And lol at "fat bitch".

The black averaged 71degrees and the DCUII averages 60 degrees. Is a little bit quieter than the black card, but not by much.

If your running one monitor it doesnt matter which card you choose. If you are running an HDTV or projector then your gonna want the Black cause its got the HDMI port. If your running eyefinity I recommend the DCUII + 3 monitors that all have displayport, that way you dont have the annoying screen tear from different connections.

If the MSI Lightning had at least 3 DP outputs, I'll put my DCII up for sale.... soley because I plan on going the crossfire route and I'd need at least 1 card slot of spacing so that they don't roast :D
