The 39" panels are VA which are much cheaper than the 31.5" IGZO panels. Considering the Seiki 39" is out soon, I'd imagine the 39" 60 Hz Asus shouldn't be much more than 2-3 months behind. They just have to make the dual TCon MST board for it unless they just use the same one from the 31.5" Asus.

I personally am more interested in the 39" panel as that is a 114 PPI which would work good for a flight simulator setup. The 31.5" 140 PPI is a bit too small and fine (need to sit close) for my simulator.

It will depend if the 39" version uses the same electronics as the Chinese 39" or the same electronics from the 50" Seiki. I guess we'll find out when it comes in. Of course the real monitor will be the 39" Asus with the DP 1.2 connection for MST 60 Hz.

Another curious thing is will the 60 Hz 39" Asus be "overclockable". I have a lot of experience overclocking stream based connections like DVI and HDMI, but not much with packet based DP. Anyone overclock DP connections before?
According to a few people DP isn't good for overclocking however they all based this argument on their 120/144Hz 1440P monitors and the fact that they all wouldn't do over 70Hz over DP.

Ugg, I saw the post about the 39" Asus not coming out until 2014 now?

I guess if this 39" Seiki is locked to 30 Hz like it's 50" brother, I could always import that Chinese one that can overclock to 40 Hz.

Just ordered this to play around with until the Asus version arrives (hopefully with dual timing controllers for MST 60 Hz via DP).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOPGO2G/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Since it uses the same panel but stuck at 30 Hz, will still be interesting to see what games are like on it. Not to mention Amazons awesome return policy. ;)

Make sure you calibrate the colors and adjust the backlight before forming your "final opinion".

I found that after doing those two tasks, I was quite happy with the results.

quite possible
Please let the firmware be compatible with my tv

You got the Skyworth, right? I think you're right that is has the same panel as the Seiki 39" so it'll be interesting if someone doesn't come up with a new motherboard enabling 60Hz or an easy to use overclocking tool. I see those panels selling briskly as a transitional monitor.

I ordered mine through Amazon prime for the no-hassle return policy. You better not get yours before I do! :D

I observed for the first time in person an LG 84" 4K screen at my local electronics/gadget store and was absolutely floored by the fidelity and acuity of these new screens. Seriously all the 1080P screens in the vicinity looked like absolute dog shit in comparison in terms of sharpness, vibrance and color reproduction.

Doubt it. 84" 4K would be equivalent to having 4 42" 1080p displays. The pixel density would be the same as what we have now and not ground breaking compare to let's say a 42" 4K display.

Its still possible one thing people forget is that there is more to a display than just pixel density and you can bet that in the best newest displays they are going to be shooting for some other details. For instance the early plasmas had huge dividers between each cell, you could easily see a huge black screen effect, in later times even at the same resolution those dividers got smaller. So maybe the newest display just has less of a screen effect, that said he probably mostly saw them next to their next biggest models like the 60 and 70 inch models not a 42 inch. 42 inch is also the mass market cheaper displays not many if any 42 inch models in a best buy are going to have the best possible panels. They will be targeted at cheaper prices.

My phone has a pixel density of over 400ppi and it needs to be that high considering how far away from it I am. It all depends on how far away you are from said Screen. an 84" 4k Is still very impressive considering it has the pixel density of a 42" 1080 and I can now be as close to my 84" as I was to my 42" screen without seeing to pixels.

that skyworth one looks really sick, mainly because the cabinet/casing is WHITE. Cool to see something other than black.

Yeah it looks pretty smooth but it is on the back so the only times I see it is when putting in a usb device, ethernet cable or my HDMI. cable.

I wonder when we'll start seeing 120hz 4k panels fed by dual display port connectors.

I suspect once HDMI 2.0 comes out, two of those could run 4K at 120 Hz with the split signal/screen design that this Asus uses for future panels.

For some reason manufactures really love HDMI versus DP, so I think that is more likely especially on displays that are in the "Grey area" of TV/monitor.

Guess it would work out fine it doesn't seem like Sears actually has stock.
The guy that went by Seiki to ask about 60Hz over dual HDMI got as response that they were looking into it in terms of would it be profitable for them.
That is a good thing for you that they're at least looking into it.

Holy crap I'm very interested to see these 5 and 6 screen setups. Such an obscene amount of pixels.

What is there to doubt? 4x42" 1080P displays are still going to have a much higher pixel density compared to a single 1080P resolution panel stretched to 80".

Which was my point, all other 1080P TVs of the same size in the vicinity looked like pixelated dog shit in comparison when standing about a meter or so away,
