Assassin's Creed Shadows

I'm sure it was an unplayable disaster. Comments made by the CEO of Ubisoft sound like he thought Star Wars Outlaws under performed because of how buggy it was and probably thinks adding polish to AC Shadows will make it sell better. The issues with AC Shadows aren't at this point about bugs, though I'm sure a super buggy release would only add fuel to the fire. Dragon Age the Veilguard actually doesn't have a mess of technical issues but its still not doing well.

To be fair, it's a Ubisoft game. Buggy messes and Ubisoft go hand in hand. Ubisoft games tend to be an absolute technical disaster the first 6 months they are on the market.
Ubisoft & Bethesda. 2 monoliths of "excellence".

The only type of person who claims that the views of others are not valid unless they have wasted their time and money on a consumer product is a corporate shill and apologist. The fact that you like garbage games from garbage companies is besides the point.
I like good games.

That’s the point I was making. Not Ubisoft games specifically. Not EA games specifically. Not Bethesda games specifically.

Just good games.

I mean, talk about gaslighting. Jesus, dude, please give it a rest.

Almost every game I’ve purchased in the past 24 months has needed at least one or two (or a dozen patches) before it was running the way it should have, so singling out Ubisoft is kind of silly.

Over the past 18 months, in particular, very few triple-A games on the PC have run well at launch - the absolute shining examples being Veilguard, Forbidden West, Ragnarock and Avatar, which of course is an Ubisoft game.

I would’ve added Star Wars Outlaws to list had it not been for the balancing issues that needed to be addressed, and for a few stuttering issues that were ironed out fairly quickly. The problems with that game were exaggerated by people who weren’t actually playing the game.

And before you start telling us about the problems these games all had by directing us to various threads in which people were discussing their technical issues, do this:

Think of the least buggy game you have ever played at launch. Now go and visit the tech forum for that game: I guarantee you that you’ll find dozens, if not hundreds of people, posting about their ‘technical issues’. No, your potato won’t run that game.

I always love it when people point us towards threads in which people with messed up hardware are complaining about a game that’s ‘not working properly’.

All games need patching after launch. The difference is the degree in which they need to be patched and what those patches are ultimately for. I'm singling out Ubisoft because that company is consistently among the worst offenders on that front. Games like Ghost Recon Wildlands were exceptionally unstable and prone to crashing every few minutes on some machines. This included high end machines, not just potato rigs. Ghost Recon Breakpoint was slightly better in terms of its stability but it was unfinished. It had the same sound effects for virtually all ground vehicles on launch just to name one example of things not done right. It had balance issues and broken systems. That's to say nothing about the idiot choice to make it a looter shooter.

It took over a year to get the game in the state it should have been in when it launched. It took another year to ultimately make it the game fans wanted. By then, no one cared. Both Division games were a mess on launch as well. While I haven't played any since the first one, I also know that the Assassin's Creed games were a shit show on launch as well. Most of my friend's tried to play Black Flag multiplayer and never could get that piece of shit to work right.

Let's be clear here. I'm not specifically singling Ubisoft out for this as CDPR and EA are guilty of this same behavior and in many cases, have done an even worse job than Ubisoft. However, I mention Ubisoft here because its the publisher and developer of the game in question. Also, to Ubisoft's credit it will eventually fix its titles until they work properly. Ubisoft does this even though its probably not the best move financially. It took two years but they finally turned Breakpoint into a fantastic game. By the time they did that, most players had already moved on from it. I don't think Ubisoft gets enough credit for standing behind the product and being willing to fix it because they shouldn't launch games in the poor state that it usually does.
Over the past 18 months, in particular, very few triple-A games on the PC have run well at launch - the absolute shining examples being Veilguard, Forbidden West, Ragnarock and Avatar, which of course is an Ubisoft game.
Veilguard is the only one I've seen running in person and the only one of those titles I had any interest in. So I'll defer to you on the rest. However, there have been plenty of games that generally seemed to work well out of the gate or didn't take months to unfuck to a point of being playable. Outlaws isn't one of them and the bulk of Ubisoft's catalog has always been a shit show.
I would’ve added Star Wars Outlaws to list had it not been for the balancing issues that needed to be addressed, and for a few stuttering issues that were ironed out fairly quickly. The problems with that game were exaggerated by people who weren’t actually playing the game.
This is because the only perspective you can see or understand is your own myopic viewpoint. Star Wars Outlaws bug videos are practically their own genre on Youtube. These are people playing the game and recording their experiences with it. If the game was so well polished, why did Ubisoft mention they were scrambling to improve the player experience and fix issues in its Q2 earnings report. The report can be read here. In this report Ubisoft said: "Additionally, despite solid ratings (Metacritic 76) and user scores across the First Party and Epic stores (3.9/5) that reflect an immersive and authentic Star Wars universe, Star Wars Outlaws initial sales proved softer than expected. In response to player feedback, Ubisoft’s development teams are currently fully mobilized to swiftly implement a series of updates to polish and improve the player experience in order to engage a large audience during the holiday season to position Star Wars Outlaws as a strong long-term performer. The game will be available on Steam on November 21. "

In one interview, the CEO of Ubisoft even admitted to shipping games unfinished and fixing them in the first few weeks after release. (I'm looking for that statement and will update the post when I find it.) In any case, Ubisoft admits that Star Wars Outlaws wasn't very polished and blames that on the game's poor sales performance. This isn't the only reason why people aren't buying it but its definitely one of the reasons.

First off, I don't have to. I can actually see the perspective of other people. Even though I rarely encounter the full list of bugs many people do with games, I still have seen my fair share of them and recognize that everyone's experiences will vary. Not only that, but this isn't necessarily because people are running games on old or low end computers. Sometimes issues are specific to high end configurations which the developers didn't properly test the game on. Ghost Recon Wildlands had problems with crashing on GTX 1080 SLi rigs as one example of this. That problem wasn't fixed for weeks if not months.

And in some cases, such as Cyberpunk 2077, I didn't really encounter many bugs. However, I could see how unfinished the game was by all the broken systems, balance problems place holder systems, the lack of proper physics, water effects, etc. Ubisoft gets away with releasing buggy games because people don't do enough to hold them accountable for it. Outlaws in particular was so bad it was meme'ed to death like Andromeda was and that finally got Ubisoft to admit it and I'm sure its at least part of the reason for AC Shadows being delayed. Ubisoft has admitted the game is a buggy mess. It's even hired a new creative director and its scrambling to fix the issues with the game. It launched a mess like all the rest of their games by its own admission. So don't sit here and gaslight us into thinking that its just people running on crappy computers that have these issues.

Nobody knows if it's a buggy mess, so how would that affect pre-order numbers?

Ubisoft would know, and probably a reason why they delayed it. Poor pre-orders + controversy + a buggy game = complete flop. I have to assume they went through such drastic measures to ensure it wasn't buggy and as a way to try to re-market it to minimize the controversy. They can probably make it less buggy, though I don't think they can re-market it that well at this point.

This is because the only perspective you can see or understand is your own myopic viewpoint. Star Wars Outlaws bug videos are practically their own genre on Youtube.

In my personal experience it was not that buggy. A few minor animation issues but those were largely fixed by the time I played it, a month or so post launch. Maybe the occasional physics bug. The AI was dumb but that was more of a design issue than bugs. I know they're supposed to be making the game AI less dumb and less bare bones stealth focused early on to alleviate that.

Quite literally what you said:

This means that if you hate a game that you haven’t even played, and you have no intentions of ever playing that game, then maybe the forum would be best served by you posting about a game that you actually are playing? (This applies to a series as well… if a series has 15 games in it, and you say, up front, that you’ve only played the first, then maybe you shouldn’t carry on as though you’re an expert, when you’re clearly not.)

You claim to want ‘good conversation’. A novel must be read for it to be appreciated. A movie must be watched. A painting must be looked at. And a game must be played.

I don't think you know what gaslighting means, because you are one of the worst offenders in this subforum at the moment.

TLDR: They removed the flying birds, which removes the more "tactical" element to stealth. They wrote a few paragraphs saying that they will have "eagle vision", which most games like Witcher 3, all other Assassin's Creed and whatnot have and over rely on. Not sure how this is an improvement. I know the magical bird flying in the sky isn't realistic, but I'm not sure how this is an improvement considering how large Assassin's Creed maps and areas are.

Then they talk about re-adding basic stealth take downs which is nice... but they talk about how they artificially gate you from doing it all the time as you need to level it up. Reminds me of Origins, where you could assassinate someone, then enemies level up and your dagger is reduced to butter knife status through no fault of the character. Then they would make us murder alligators and de-populate all of Egypt just to get the damage back up.

I expected this, though I am not sure why people enjoy these types of nonsense upgrades. They feel so dated, a relic from the 1990s when budgets and technical limitations got in the way of real gameplay.

After seeing Naoe in combat I can safely say it should have been a 1 protag game.
Yasuke, or any samurai character, doesn't need to be playable. I guess Ubisoft is trying to appeal to GoT demographic... You can be a samurai OR ninja, please buy our game...

Combat gameplay was the main reason I stopped being interested in Asscreed for a long time. It always felt so clunky and unsatisfying. This actually looks promising. I hope it also feels good.

Edit: Although upon closer inspection it still looks like some movement patterns are missing. Animations still look more choppy in comparison to something like Ghost of Tsushima for example.

And there isn't any contact being made, so it lacks impact.

Animations look jerky. Not smooth. Though I do like that the character seems to react quickly.

Jonathan Dumont, creative director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, said that "Naoe’s the fastest Assassin we ever made"...She runs super fast, she has a lot of gadgets to keep her stealth so that she doesn't have to fight often. We wanted to satisfy that for players that come in for that ninja-Assassin game"

Dumont also hinted that Naoe would have a lean-forward, arms-back run akin to the style made infamous by its ubiquitous presence in the anime 'Naruto'...

So from dumpster fire to landfill fire unless they fix ALL of the major issues before release.

I think this is a good thing. Give it that extra month or so. Yes, i know they delayed it once already. But, better to do one more delay for a month, than to have another star wars outlaws situation.

The more I see of this game the less I like it. Now apparently they got rid of free climbing, and all the unnecessary flips look ridiculous.
But then again all I want is Odyssey 2 and anything else will be disappointing in one way or another.

That is some truly garbage looking gameplay in a very beautiful environment.

This game can't be fixed. It's broken at fundamental levels such as story and characters. For years many fans of the franchise wanted the game set in this time period and in this place and when Ubisoft decides to finally do it the story and characters are completely screwed up. Players wanted to play as a samurai in an historic feudal Japan and instead they got an alternate universe feudal Japan that no one cares about.

I wouldn't mind playing as an assassin in Japan. Which the game does provide one character. The problem is of course the out of place black guy. A good mix of both would have been fine (female assassin, male samurai). Before people complain yet again, there have been black protagonists in past Assassin's Creed games, and Syndicate had both a playable woman and man and split time between them. No one complained about those games because their respective protagonists fit the theme.

I would still prefer a Japanese male samurai or shogun for such a time period & setting. The other AC games did have good mixtures of characters, which I'm definitely a big fan of since AC1. Its the recent stuff that's been burning me out, like Valhalla's English storyline vs my favored mythological Old Norse stories in the *heims. I do want to try Mirage since people have said its like some of the older games.

Odyssey is my favorite "modern" action game & Kassandra is an awesome female lead, which I'm in full agreement with TaintedSquirrel on. Having a sequel to that one would be amazing if done correctly.

I personally can’t wait to play as Yasuke, a mythical character who’s revered by the Japanese, and can be found throughout Japanese pop culture. A bold decision. Even better because half of the forum will be so triggered by this they’ll be smashing their keyboards in anger when the game finally releases next century.

Yeah it has nothing to do with launching this game in Black History Month.

This is complete nonsense. I know that not even you believe half the things you type.
