Ok I know this is a really dumb and basic question. Is an ASCII file the same as a text (.txt) file? I have a resume in word format that needs to be submitted in ASCII Text format. Is a doc file ASCII Text? I don't think that it is.

Also, I would proably loose my formatting won't I? Is there a way to keep the formatting in an ASCII file?

Would a rich text file still be considered an ASCII file? The web site says it must be an "ASCII TEXT format" file but gives no extension.

my guess is that by ascii they mean plain text as in .txt. you would lose formatting since word files are saved in a proprietery format. rtf is also not plain text. technically iirc it's stored as plain text but the plain text is all of the formatting information so it's not easily readable. i would try saving the word doc as a plain text file by file -> save as and see what happens

it may be worth finding an email address/phone number so you can ask about it
