Armored Warfare - modern military tank shooter from Obsidian

I went founders pack because I enjoyed the beta. I never played much WoT but I did play a ton of warthunder. I feel like this is quite a bit better. Matchmaking is kind of wonky at the moment but that will change when it goes open beta and we get more players. Make sure you hit the base upgrade tab at the top, it helps with grinding to build it out.

they are going to lessen the grinding in this as well soon. they are upping everything for pvp and pve.

still need to do a lot of balance tweaking though and get bigger maps.

I really enjoy getting grouped in tier 6 matches with my tier 4 TD. Its fun being made of paper mache and dreams when your rounds mostly bounce. Can make it work with HE rounds but its mostly holding back and waiting for the MBTs to start slugging it out and nip around the edges.

Welcome to Beta haha , i feel the same way but that doesn't keep me away from the game. I am thinking of selling my WoT account soon and just playing this game.
No reason to go back to WoT anytime soon as AW is just "IMO" Better granted it's still in BETA and has ton's of BUGS. Remember WoT beta. It was miserable and garbage looking compared to AW.

the one group of vehicles I don't understand yet is things like the BMP and the Scorpion...I just don't get how to use them. They only sling HE and unless you get lucky, you don't do lots of damage.especially VS MBTs...try as hrd as I can to hit weak points...I still get the derpy damage rolls.

They are scouts, extremely fast and with huge sight radius. They also get camo and view bonuses while not moving and in cover. So you can zip around the map and spot, also even with some of the heat and he rounds you can reall mess up the day of an MBT, just try not to go toe to toe.

It works best when you push out ahead of the mbts a bit so you spot and mark targets, later with like the bmp 1 you get ATGMs and gun upgrades but its easier if you just spot, take their scouts and if you get lucky harass their arty.

Also the BMP line of tanks has an extremely low profile, and can make it really really hard to hit effectively when hull down or peeking over cover. I've also seen scorpions do some really really amazing things, especially the higher tier ones.

I'm really enjoying this game so far. Surprisingly, the PvE is quite a lot of fun and a great, relaxed alternative to PvP.

So they get what, like a 200% camo bonus? 200% of 0 = ?

I swear there is no camo in this game. Unless there is a rock between you and an enemy, you seem to get spotted.

I've decided to try this game since I'm fed-up waiting for Gaijin to fix crossfire in War Thunder which was working fine until they broke it a few months back and probably won't be fixing again.

With Obsidian involved I figured this game should be pretty good. I'm just starting with this game, ingame name is Yakk, you can look me up.

I enjoy playing it quite a bit more than WoT but goddamn, the framerates are all over the place. Cryengine is such a pain in the ass.

Fun so far! One thing I am impressed with is Crossfire seems to have virtually 100% scaling in this game.

Still need to do some more testing, but rock stable glass smooth FPS for me.

anybody care to compare this to warthunder?

it is way easier to just compare this to WoT without the magic RNG. It is pretty similar to gameplay of WoT, least for me it is just with less bullshit.

I would say AW plays like a more polished version of WOT. I wouldn't directly compare it to to WT, it plays quite differently. Very well optimized, light on system resources, and looks awesome too, easily the best looking game out of the 3 IMO.

Honestly if War Thunder hadn't released that gameworks update which broke AMD Crossfire and tanked performance I'd probably still be playing it. But they apparently won't fix it so time to move on, Armored Warfare plays differently, but is a very, very good substitute. I'm glad I tried it.

Boost weekend is perfect timing! Thanks for the heads up :)

Yes it is a refined WoT. No one hit kills, no one hit arty, no stupid 25% RNG BS, no 4evertracked, no massive side scraping needed, no being outclassed 100% even vs much higher tier vehicles.

let me restate...

anybody care to compare this to either of the two non arcade modes in warthunder?

 crazy talk!

I'd say War Thunder is more rock-paper-scissors strength/weakness and counters (or lack of weaknesses for some tanks...) With sluggish play-style; partly due to simulating the way the old tanks handled. And unfortunately more sluggish play partly since that infamous engine "upgrade" which broke the game to a good degree IMO.

Armored Warfare uses modern tanks which by default are more responsive. So while there is still strategy and strength/weaknesses, I find twitch play and skill to be much more important in Armored Warfare which makes the game more satisfying to me so far.

Also, as a disclaimer, I've been playing War Thunder on and off since early (or maybe even closed, been a while) beta.

Another even for this week. 3000 gold for prizes for playing 5 games a day during the event times.

https://aw.my.com/us/news/general/wolflis-gold-rush

If you are on the fence now would be the time to get in. New players get 2500 gold, with the event allowing up to another 3000 that is 5500 total gold you can get for free and you can get quite a lot with 5500 gold.

thanks Yakk, that helps a lot

I actually like the lurch and grind of the old tanks. Don't get me wrong, I like gyro stabilization and ECM too, and would still be playing MWO if PGI were not such absolute asshats.

Perhaps I will try it

Yup.. I stopped MWO maybe 4 or 5 months ago because it just got messed up and they didn't seem to want to fix anything that people had been complaining about forever. that and the massive POS that is clan warfare.

so far to me this is everything that sucked about WoT being removed with a much better and easier grind. I hate the grinding I just like playing.
