Are there 4k HDR options other than the $2k Asus PG27UQ?

I want something with the picture quality of an HDR television. Quantum dots with FALD most likely. Not IPS would be good.

Are there any other options out there?

I want a monitor with the picture quality of a modern television. Colors and lighting are so much more vibrant on my TV than they are on my IPS gaming monitor. I wish my PC could look as good as a PS4 does on the television.

Why not hook up your PC to the TV?

Nope, nothing comparable other than the Acer X27/PG27UQ buyable today.

But check out some of the new products announced by Acer like the 32" miniLED 4K 60hz, the new 27" 4K HDR 144hz ConceptD, and the 43" VA CG437K. Also, hypothetically the 35" Ultrawide 3440x1440 200hz VA with FALD will launch some day. Who knows.

Next year there may be a 48" LG OLED w/likely 120hz support over HDMI 2.1.

None of these products are going to be cheap, the 43" VA edge lit CG437K is probably the cheapest at $1299 USD. How close it will come to the FALDs is anyone's guess though, at least VA should help with black levels, but it may have bad ghosting in dark scenes. The 32" 60hz miniLED will likely be picture quality champion but it will also cost $3000.

The Acer X27/PG27UQ has a surprisingly good picture on bright HDR scenes. But of course leaves some do be desired on dark ones. The only item coming to the "monitor" world that would top a high end FALD glossy TV in picture quality would be the 48" OLED next year that Sancus mentioned.

I could. My family is usually atching things, so I wouldn't be able to do it often. I just want a monitor that looks as good. Perhaps the PG27UQ would come close despite having an IPS panel. But $2k seems a bit much for a monitor.

You can sometimes find the X27 or PG27UQ on sale for $1600-1700. It does have the best picture out of any high refresh "gaming" monitor on the market. I had both models. I just wasn't a fan of 4K at 27".

Not a fan due to gaming or desktop use? I would end up turning the Windows scaling way up. I really don't do much non-gaming on my PC. Just Excel and organizing photos and videos.

Actually for desktop, that panel is glorious. Probably the best desktop monitor out there. For gaming though, 4K at 27" isn't very immersive. But I could totally see why a lot of people love it. The clarity is extremely nice. I do some flight sims so 27" doesn't cut it.
