Are the majority of new game purchases loose in the case or do I just have bad luck?

Ever since I started buying console games again a couple years ago after a long stint being mostly on PC... I have noticed that possibly 4/5 of the games that I have bought new either locally at a store or online have all arrived with the disc loose in the case. When I hear that disc moving around inside the case I get terrible thoughts of scratched discs but not once have they had any scratches. The games would be brand new in the shrink wrap, but I swear the VAST majority of the brand new games I have bought over the last 2 years or so have all had their discs loose in the case.

I've been wondering if anyone else has similar experiences?

Probably less than 1% (3 or 4 out of thousands in the past couple decades). The center lock for the disc is sometimes not stiff enough or just fragile. I have not purchased a new game that came on a disc in quite a long time, though. CD cases are far more guilty with this than your standard DVD or Blu-ray case is.

1 out of 20 would be my chances.
Though with almost every new game, they're on blu ray which has a special scratch resistant coating. I think wii/wii u are the latest to not have protection, but those are near impossible to find brand new.

Can't remember it ever happening with any of the PS4 games I bought physically before I started buying digital only. The only game I've bought a physical copy of in the last several years is CP2077 since it was only $10 and Ring Fit for Switch since you have to buy it physically for the accessories anyways.

I cast my vote at 75%.
I have also had a few where the center lock thing was crumbled. Or the spine was completely split (The most recent was The Last of Us 2, a few months ago).

When Blu-ray released, it was advertised with a very effective anti-scratch coating. And that has proven very true, for me. My first ever Blu-ray was Casino Royal. I opened the case, pulled the disc out (it wasn't loose) and I somehow dropped it as I was moving it toward my PS3.

It still looked brand new, when I picked it off the floor.

Not saying 0 but should be close to, can't day the same for audio CD's, but their locking thingie is a lot more prone to breaking

I had a couple loose over the years. Not something I worry about cause Blu-rays are pretty damn scratch proof.
