To be honest, KZ2 is good, but not great IMO. Their controls aren't "tight" enough and I didn't like it. Sold my copy after a while, didn't even beat the game. I found online to be lacking and got really boring fast.

Those percentages aren't right. Here's the difference in sales for last year and last month (based on weekly figures for each period):

    Vs 04/2008
    Code:
    Wii -52.39%
    PS3 -32.12%
    360 -6.91%
    PSP -39.80%
    NDS	+150.72%
    PS2 +38.26%
    Vs 03/2009
    Code:
    Wii -29.28%
    PS3 -27.18%
    360 -33.71%
    PSP -13.69%
    NDS	+130.91%
    PS2 +91.96%

how come you guys never post the japanese hardware sales? when you put the japanese and npd sales together for the past few months the ps3 is getting just as many sales as the 360 at twice the price in some circumstances!!

Quite possibly because this isn't a Japanese site, and ignoring the fact that those numbers are easily available on a weekly basis.

Not to mention that the PS3 sales in Japan this month were a bit unusual because of the FFXIII demo. :p

still good to mention that the ps3 sold just as many consoles as its way cheaper competitor worldwide last month!! Personally i like to see the bigger picture which is of course looking at worldwide sales, but fair enough if this site wants to solely focus/post about npd sales data and nothing else.

Well... perhaps, perhaps not. Because based on the last figures we have, the 360 is outselling the PS3 by about 5-10k a week in Europe. Would have been close though.

If there was a reliable worldwide tracker I'm sure we would be talking about that instead. As there's not, the only thing that you can use for those numbers is the manufacturer's data.

Somehow I doubt they're the ones concerned about that particular fact. PS3 is further behind the 360 now than it was on the day the PS3 launched. Sony made the decision to price the PS3 at the levels they did... and they've reaped the consequences both in profit lost (they've lost more on the PS3 than they made with the PS2 and all bar ~1 year of the PS1) and marketshare lost.

Besides, didn't you know that the PS3 is actually cheaper than a 360. ;)

What are we discussing the PS3 / 360 for anyway? It's about as worthwhile as discussing the gamecube and the xbox last gen for all the impact they're having on the leader. :D

that is why xbox sales so well in America we are dumb. We only see face value cost; to us the xbox is 199.99 and the ps3 is 399.99 regardless of what else is needed. And we will probably uses our credit cards to buy everything as well.

lol i love that chart, they should have been really sarcastic and whacked another 3 years online gaming service to pay for if the 360 is kept 4 years!

As a business id be wondering why the 360 can only currently sell 50k more(US) and 40k more (europe) and 60k+ less (Japanese) and wondering what cards are left to play apart from getting the arcade price closer to the 10 year old ps2/ a few more sequels and some kind of motion controller

Really? You wouldn't be pleased that you've turned a $6bn loss making venture into one that's making a steady profit and is managing to outsell last gen's overwhelming market leader on a regular basis... even in Europe where your competitor declared you dead? I think you might be expecting too much. Pretty much everyone else expected the PS3 to roll over the 360 like it wasn't even competition... including me. Sony thought it was still going to happen even after the shaky start:

    David Reeves, July 2007
That it can be outselling it this far into the gen is quite surprising. I still think the PS3 will outsell it eventually, but it's not going to overturn its worldwide lead until the successor to the 360 is released.

Because I live in the US? I also don't include the PAL numbers despite that being a larger market than Japan.

NPD is a very very specific set of data that doesn't even include all US retail sources. If you want worldwide numbers, you can find them very easily and make a thread. The US is the largest gaming market in the world. Europe is number two now, and Japan is a strong three. That's why the title says "NPD thread", not "worldwide sales thread". Complaining about not including other numbers in an NPD report is like complaining that I'm not putting the European league scores in an NBA playoffs report....

misguided sarcasm as no choices disagree with me all 3 consoles rock for the right user group. I was just pointing out Microsoft superior marketing strategy for the US market. The main reason for xbox360's success aside from the obvious larger library of good games is they way they market and sell the 360. The wii has a good US marketing plan as well; low priced fun. Even though in reality the wii is just as expensive as the other consoles knowing first hand that in order to get the most out of a Wii you need 4 wii motes and at least 2 chucks which comes at a high price.

Americans like spending as little upfront as they can. If given 2 options 400 up front or 200 up front and 200 later most Americans will pick 200 now and 200 later.

all 3 consoles come out to about the same cost of you uses them the way they are intended to be used. the xbox360 was intended to be used with live, the wii in intended to be used as a party system with 4 wiimotes, and the PS3 was intended to be used as a blu-ray player. The main different between them is you have to pay most of the PS3's cost upfront.

The Wii doesn't even need 4 remotes to play 4 players on some games (unlike PS3 or xbox 360). Boom Blox, Rayman, and Wii Bowling to name 3 popular titles where you don't need the extra controllers to get "the most out of the Wii".

    failed logic.

PS3 and Xbox360's primary multilayer environment is online in which case you would use one controller. Also both xbox and Ps3 have plenty of multiplayer games that use one controllers so pointing out a few instances where only 1 controller is needed is pointless.

Wii markets a party console that requires a minimum of 2 controllers and 4 controllers provides a better experience. 1 controller works for a while but eventually you will end up with more.

I didnt say to posteuropean/japanese sales in this thread! lmao

Christ of course id be pleased on that part, but you have to be devils advocate and not let your guard down, which is why even though they are outselling the ps3 they will still be scratching their heads even after they have acheived what they have. If you wanna be leader you have to crush the competition, thats not happening even with the aggressive price reductions/ aaa titles/gta expansions etc and that will piss them off.

I guess you're asking why in general i never post them? I guess because posting japanese sales figures every week would be a bit much, since people generally bitch and moan about the once a month NPD thread....

I don't really see how anyone could call their price reductions aggressive. The 360 lasted longer without a price drop than any other home console ever released. Not just that, but looking at the main models of the 360 and PS3 shows this...

    360 at launch: $399 (20gb SKU)
    360 now: $299 (60gb SKU)
    Difference: $100 / 25% reduction in 42 months

    PS3 at launch: $599 (60gb SKU)
    PS3 now: $399 (80gb SKU)
    Difference: $200 / 33% reduction in 30 months

For comparison, the PS2 was reduced by $150 / 50% in 43 months.

As for MS being leader... they're never going to be, no matter how much they want it.

What difference do they make? The 20gb was discontinued pretty much the second it came out, and the 160gb is the elite equivalent. At least Sony did the decent thing by killing off their tard pack.

The actual price cuts remain the same. The Core launched at $299 and now sells for $199 as the Arcade ($100 off). Or were you trying to say that some obscure model comparison should be made to somehow fit your point?

Some being the operative word. Most do...

Rayman means Raving Rabbids? If so you do need 4 Wiimotes and 4 chucks to get the most out of multiplayer, one would hardly constitute multiplayer when you all play at the same time....let's not forget the added cost of a balance board aswell if you really wanna get the most out of it.

No what im saying is dont just post certain skus, ie the acade/core pack (ie no hard drive model) launched for £210, now its £129........thats around 40% price drop for the pack that most people will be buying that wasnt a ridiculously expensive price in the first place, that suits my point better!! ;)

It's not actually the pack that most people buy though. Up until very recently (in the US, I see no reason why the 51st state would be any different) the average 360 selling price was just under $299.

The point still remains the same though. That's an £80 drop (38%) in 42 months for the 360 vs a £125 drop (30%) in 26 months (Euro launch) for the PS3....and again, slower drops than even the PS2 (£120 in around 36 months). There's nothing aggressive about it... even in Europe where MS are not doing particularly well.

    Wii?

I honestly don't see the PS3 outselling the 360 in the USA and probably even EU. At least during this generation (Before a PS4 or the next XBOX). I think it really comes down to games at this point. Walk into a Fry's or BB, X360 has its own isle of games and accessories, while PS3 has less than half of that. I also don't see any killer apps coming out that appeal to the US market and will significantly boost PS3 sales at this point. MGS4 was good, Killzone obviously didn't move many consoles, and lots of the good Japanese games just don't appeal to the masses in the US (Valkyria Chronicles). Also most of the big hitter titles today are cross platform like COD, Madden, Music games, and games like Fallout 3 or RE5. X360 also already has the larger user base, arguably easier to develope for and port to PC, so from a dev stand point if you had to choice one, X360 makes financial sense.

i don't why people talk about the p3s price. the Wii is by far the most overpriced console on the market, i would never buy one, for the same reason i would never buy a top of the line cpu, you are paying to be pillaged.

Just so there's no complaints about not posting the Japanese numbers:

    DSI 35k
    PSP 30k
    WII 13k
    PS3 9k
    360 4k
    DSL 4k

Oooh... exciting! (Japan's hardware sales are in a real bad way right now)
