Anyone else going to watch it? We are an Apple house for our company phones so I will be the one upgrading/purchasing for everyone here. Not a bad deal considering I get one too.

I may peek in to see what they're doing with Apple TV. What they announce will dictate what Amazon and Roku does.

So I have an iPhone 6s Plus that is still doing well, only reason I have not upgraded was due to needed a headphone jack. I know they will never bring it back, but I hope the updates on this device are enough to make me want to upgrade.

I'm really only interested in the new "X" phone, as I know the 7s/7s Plus are just incremental upgrades. I want something new at this point.

Hope it actually works and doesnt have issues like the iPhone 4 did. If there are no issues I will be upgrading my first gen apple watch, I have been waiting for cellular.

    It's happening!

So it's not the 7s/7s Plus? That's new.

The GPU will definitely add more options.

iPhone X. The first phone that cops will simply hold up to your face to unlock and look into your private life. No questions asked.

Versus just putting your finger on the sensor with every other phone in existence?

Versus staying with the same technology forever and never changing anything up. It's a step in a different direction, there's always skepticism that ensues.

Guess I'm skipping the X until next year. No touchID no buy for me. I do like the move to stainless steel and the move back to glass though and all the new camera technologies.

I don't think touch ID is coming back, especially not if they keep layering on this sort of "premium" phone technology. Either way, I'm grabbing the 8 Plus, then the X when that's available.

Any reason you're in need of touch ID specifically?

Just not big on using my face to unlock. I like using my finger to unlock the phone instantly, I dont want to have to bring my face up every time to unlock the phone because on a lot of things I dont my phone isnt in direct sight of my face.

They might still add the sensor under the glass next generation. We'll see.

I wonder if there'll be a way to enable a passcode or something like that, to make it so you're not locked into using the face ID.

So they spent some years getting everyone to hand over finger prints and now they are cool with that data so ramping up to detailed facial mapping? Wowzers..

Im sure there will be but I dont want to type in the code when I used to just press my finger down and unlock.

I don't use my fingerprint (fingerprints are just user names...not passwords) but if I did I certainly wouldn't be using my typical index finger. My G6 locks down after 5 fails. So I figure I would have pretty good odds in that case. ;)

Not to mention all the litigation out there right now around fingerprints. Right now there are a few cases going where people are arguing that only the person knows which finger was used and that should be protected just like a password as it could self incriminate. Time will tell how that's handled but at least you can argue that.

You can't argue jack with Face ID. They simply hold the phone up and poof...they're in. Uncle Sam is salivating over this right now because of all the bad guys they can kill and then still get into the device as long as they don't shoot the face.

Has nothing to do with changing things up. Has everything to do with what I consider less secure. Did Apple improve on Face Unlock? Absolutely and they did a very nice job but Face unlock also isn't anything new. It's only been around on Android since Android 4.0. So this definitely isn't "futuristic" as Phil liked to say about the X.

I also fail to see how this is an improvement on the UX. It's more steps now to unlock than just touching the Home button. I mean this shit would drive my wife nuts. She'll be upgrading to the 8 and ignoring the X.

That is what they should have done. That would have been incredibly nice. At this point though I'd imagine Touch ID is on the way out.

One would hope but man that's a huge UX change in the wrong direction versus just a finger unlock that so many use right now.

I wonder how well that camera and "biotic chip" can pick up on folks around you. That would be some hella interesting data points... see who wanders by in field of view, where they go, the make up of people, etc.

While I'm pretty much interested to play with these new toys once they hit the Apple Store, I'm sticking with my 6S for now. Why? Because adulting - Saving for a house :D - I'll need to put together some separate savings for one of the new shiny, though....

I misinterpreted what you were trying to say, I didn't read the word "cops" at first. I don't expect any other way to unlock unless you're using face ID, but there's really no other option unless there's some sort of integration there to recognize a finger (which I'm thinking there isn't). Either way, there's always the 8/8 Plus that doesn't change any of the functionality.

Yes, but Android got there first, like practically a decade ago so again Apple is just playing catch-up to the rest of the smartphone industry. :p

And I had predicted Apple would use something of their own creation with respect to the wireless charging and they did - they chose Qi as the basis but they've of course made their own refinements to it and created an off-shoot of it that won't be compatible with non-iOS devices so, using that "Air Power' charging platform can pretty much be guaranteed to not charge other devices but it remains to be seen if that's the case.

Yes, but to me the iPhone 8 doesnt feel that big of an upgrade and my 7+ 256GB is doing great so I can wait. I usually get the iphones if I feel the upgrade is big enough. Never not bought one because a lack of features.

Well, this even was rather bad.

Apple Watch - bad product by design since start.
Apple TV 4k - welcome to 2015, Apple.
    iPhone 8 - more like iPhone 7S.
iPhone X - poor developers, now we have to account for inacessible corners and that cutout.

Also no Mac Mini update. After all, it was only over 1000 days since last Mac Mini downgrade, why would be there an update ?

well given the pricing on that X in Canada @ 1319$ for the 64 gig (LOL!) even carrier subsidized will be ludicrous pricing, guess they saved me some coin this round. my 7 plus 128 is working just fine lol

I don't think I'd get the 8 if you're completely satisfied with your 7, makes no sense if you're doing just fine. Myself, I like to have the latest and greatest asap, so it's a matter of want versus need. Another reason is that I'm back down to the smaller size (7), so I want to get back to the Plus size, makes no sense to get the 7 when I can jump right to the 8.

My 7 Plus 256GB has been in its box since I got my OP 3T and now 5. I didn't see anything from Apple today that filled me with the desire to upgrade to the 8 Plus or X.
