AOC Announces Frameless Monitor with Swarovski Crystals

Aug 20, 2006
…once again, I feel compelled to ask why display manufacturers spend so much time on gimmicks instead of something that is actually important—like picture quality, perhaps? (Yeah, I know it’s because you can’t really market display quality, but let me champion that ideal, if only for a second.) I do like the fact that AOC’s new displays are nearly bezel-less, but I pity anyone who is vain to the extent that they need Swarovski crystals on the back of their monitor. The real killer for me, though, is that this is an IPS panel—with my luck, there’d be bleeding in all four corners. And what’s up with this trend of monitor stands that look like bent crowbars? (Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be photos of the blinged-out version yet, but just imagine something…tackier.)

The more expensive of the two monitors comes with a rose gold base as well as a rear embedded with Swarovski crystals. When it comes to stylish computer hardware in general and displays in particular, it is not always easy to get something that is both aesthetically attractive and technologically advanced. High-quality backlighting requires space, and full-size connectors make devices thicker too, so sleek designs usually have certain compromises. AOC attempted to combine style and technology in its Q2781-series monitors, if having crystals on your monitor is your thing. The displays are based on AH-IPS panels featuring a 2560×1440 resolution suitable up to 350 nits brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles, a 5 ms response time and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The manufacturer claims that the Q2718PQ and the Q2718PS displays can reproduce 16.77 million colors, and also claims “full sRGB” (but we would cautiously call it 99%).
I would glue little frenzy pencil trolls to every spare exposed piece of frame and stand.. get REALLY fucking high.. and then wait for the screaming to start
From what I understand there are only a few actual panel manufacturers.
I can FINALLY ditch my CRT!

I dont care about the monitor but the advertised pic is easy on the eyes...
What it needs is at least 15 more Hz to that refresh rate even if it's not a gaming monitor.
Swarovski crystals man ...... ach not enough power ser.

She's gonna blow !
Diamonds schiamonds, that base looks right out of a sci-fi movie set. Probably shakes like crazy when fists hit the table, but I can't deny that I think it looks boss.
