hello all, im writing this up today because i have recently scored a rampage 2 gene for cheap, has an i7 940 in it at the moment along with 12gb ram and the like, i recently nabbed an X5570 cheap also since everything on the net shows that the X5570 works with this board fine, the X5570 turned up and for the past few days i've been trying to get it working, it'll just give no display at all, and given that there are a few treads that show them working with this board it leads me to believe that it could be a dead cpu, i've tried a fair few things but i don't have another 1366 board to test with at the moment, i have tried updating the bios and CMOS resets and neither have brought up any progress so it does seem like a dead cpu, perhaps there's something i've missed? any tips or what have you will be greatly appreciated.

Do you know the board works with the i7 940? You didn't exactly mention that.

ahh yes, sorry about that, i should have mentioned it, and yes it does work with the 940, currently my main system (the surface on the 940 is a bit ruined though so temps are terrible, idle at 60, though that's partly to do with the tiny cooler i have)

Can't help you man, don't own x58, and that crowd is slowly disappearing thanks to Haswell-E :D

You might want to post this question on the Intel forum, as that gets a lot more traffic.

well yeah the X58 crowd is disappearing but still a good contender for the money :p

ill have to take heed of that thanks.

Do you know what bios version the Rampage II Gene has? The CPUID might not be present in earlier versions to support that CPU microcode.

it's on 1701, latest i can get for the board, thought that was the issue when it didn't work the first time and have since updated it, made no difference unfortunately

It should have the CPUID microcode in that bios. If it doesn't work with 1701 bios (I can check the CPUID microcode for that one) then the CPU is likely dead or defective.

yeah it doesn't work with the 1701, if you could check and wouldn't mind that would be great.

Just checked it and the CPUID for the X5570 (106A5) is present in bios 1701. Looks like the CPU is dead or defective. Here are the CPUID microcode for 1701:

ahh that's great thanks, ill get onto the seller now and see if i can get a replacement/refund, thanks for that
