I just read it from Nvidia's spec sheet, how they came up with that I don't know. No, 1.4a only supports up to HBR3, which is limited to 120 Hz at UHD 4K using 8-bit color and 165 Hz when DSC is used (98/120 Hz using 10-bit color). You can't hit 240 Hz at UHD 4K without using UHBR 13.5, which is only in the 2.0/2.1 specification.
3 - DisplayPort 1.4a
4 - Multi Monitor:
- 4 independent displays at 4K 120Hz using DP or HDMI
- 2 independent displays at 4K 240Hz or 8K 60Hz with DSC using DP or HDMI
- Other display configurations may be possible based on available bandwidth
Good idea. I hear autohdr is quite niceAlready have a 4090 on a 1440p ultra wide OLED so no. I’ll most likely do a new build and migrate to Win 11 before i get a new GPU.
Yes. Unless you are considering the 4090 Ti. Only you can answer your question, it's subjective. What's the 4080 going to do for you that the 3080 doesn't and what are you willing to pay?I'm looking at used 4080 (ads) - is $1300-$1400 CAD - a good deal for them? My 3080 is probably worth (I could sell?) $600? I'd need about $700.
I would only look at MSI and Asus cards - the Trio and Tuf series.
Should I create a new thread?
Well, waiting for the 40 series to come down in price vs getting a used one - & having my current card retain some of its value?Yes. Unless you are considering the 4090 Ti. That's why I was considering the upgrade - if I buy used - it's not as bad - $$ wise - but, the power efficiency/supposedly quiet operation (only worried about coil whine - but, these don't need to get hot/run fast to work) - and the 4mm/200+/16 vram vs 10 vram are selling points. Plus, I won't have to upgrade for a long time!happy with the 4080, if its another 30-40% increase at least, maybe, 3080 to 4080 is a big jump in nm from 8 to 4nm, good upgrade, 200+ watt draw, runs pretty cool and efficient too
yes, i would check around. there is usually nib 4080s going for 900-1100 nib from time to timeThat's why I was considering the upgrade - if I buy used - it's not as bad - $$ wise - but, the power efficiency/supposedly quiet operation (only worried about coil whine - but, these don't need to get hot/run fast to work) - and the 4mm/200+/16 vram vs 10 vram are selling points. I went from a 3070 to 4070ti. While I did not like the price at all I am happy I can play all games at a nice click now. Here was my post given some details. https://hardforum.com/threads/my-3d...u-and-monitor-upgrades-along-the-way.2028292/I am thinking of either buying a 4070 TI, or 4080. My kid needs a new GPU, and my 3070 Ti would be a good upgrade from his 980 Classified.
Dammit.
Edit: Used? Here, a new one is $1600 and up. A used one, I've seen ads for $1400 (edit: equivalent to $1060 USD today) but many are nib - so, I am wondering why is it still in the box with wrapping on? Why didn't they just return it?yes, i would check around. there is usually nib 4080s going for 900-1100 nib from time to time
They likely got it cheaper is why. No point breaking even returning when you can sell for a profit and qualify for credit card promotions.Edit: Used? Here, a new one is $1600 and up. I've got a chance to get an MSI 4090 X for $1500 from a friend who's trying to return it but missed the 30 day deadline. He paid $1700 and never opened it cuz his wife vetoed his new build. She's such a sweet gal.Just got my hands on an ROG Strix 4090 after having a 3090 for a while. Although the 3090 ran almost everything I threw at it at at least 1400p with great framerates, I play on VR a lot and can't wait to finish my build to test the 4090... so the Ti is really not on my radar at least at this time until I test the 4090 on some games.
BUY IT! For real tho, I have the MSI 4090 Suprim X and this thing absolutely crushes every game... at 4K... does not even break a sweat doing it either.I've got a chance to get an MSI 4090 X for $1500 from a friend who's trying to return it but missed the 30 day deadline. I never wanted to spend that kind of $$ on a GPU -- and still don't -- but I wouldn't have any desire to upgrade for several years. Part of me hopes he can RMA it to spare me from buying the damn thing.
Great video card, indeed, but damn it's one B-I-G bastard!!!! I wish my buddy had the Liquid cooled version.BUY IT! For real tho, I have the MSI 4090 Suprim X and this thing absolutely crushes every game... at 4K... does not even break a sweat doing it either.

I actually just plugged in my 4070 Ti that I got from the Prime sale. 917 CAD plus tax lol. This card destroys my old 3070 Ti lol..I went from a 3070 to 4070ti. Here it is in a Lian Li Evo case like mine. You get a good idea of how it fits. Not bad at all. Still waiting to see if my bud can return his 4090, but I feel a lot better about buying it if I get the chance.I have a MSI 4090 Suprim X and yeah it's huge! 1500 is a good price for it, I paid more than that for a 3090 during the pandemic (ugh). I run 4k and most things are 100fps+.
I feel similar. I've spent more time watching films lately than playing games. I might just be getting older and growing out of video games though, I don't know.I just built a new system last year, i13900k, with a RTX 4080. Running my 34" OLED monitor, and I don't need any more horsepower at this point. Plus where are the cool new games that need this hardware? Games suck right now, nothing new nothing good.
You better save up for the Nvidia price hike then.not excited...I game at 1440p and I'm currently using a 3080 10GB...I'll be waiting for the 5000 series...my every other generation upgrade cycle

Geezus man. Why do I keep hearing stories like this? Why does he even need her permission just to build a computer? And why did she wait until after he started buying parts to raise a fuss about it? Sheesh. I feel bad for your friend man, gawd damn.He paid $1700 and never opened it cuz his wife vetoed his new build. She's such a sweet gal.
He made a major purchase without discussing it with her first? If they are budgeting then he can't just blow almost 2k on one part of the PC.Geezus man. Why do I keep hearing stories like this? This is why as a couple it pays to have multiple accounts. I have an account, Wife has an account and we have a shared account for expenses. She does not question what I buy out of mine nor do I question what she buys out of hers. As long as bills and goals are met, what we each have is for whatever we want.Geezus man. Or just stay single. Works great for me. My $$ is mine, my time is mine, my life is mine. Yeah, I'm a selfish bastard. So a bit more information. The guy sold me and my friend two RTX 3090s. One was the MSI Suprim X I am using now, which he sold for $150. The other was an ASUS ROG Strix for $100, which my friend bought (and he also covered the cost of my 3090). Both cards had been lightly used for gaming and crypto-mining (both cards were undervolted while mining). The ASUS card had been used more, which is why it was cheaper. The dude was trying to get rid of extra hardware he had lying around that wasn't doing much other than sitting in drawers (he had replaced the two 3090s with a liquid-cooled 3090 Ti and 4090). He said he wanted to give them to people who would actually use them for gaming. I still don't understand why he let them go for so cheap though. He could have sold them for $700+ each. They were both in excellent condition. Well, they've been working out just great for me and my friend. Definitely made for a very interesting start to 2023. As mentioned before, I was coming from a 1080 Ti (from EVGA - gawd I miss them), and my friend had been using a Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT. So the 3090s were an extremely nice upgrade for us. Now I just need to replace my aging system and pair the 3090 with a CPU that can actually keep it fed. Don't have the finances for that at this time though. So the cheap/free RTX 3090 was GREATLY appreciated.I was offered a lightly-used MSI Suprim X RTX 3090 for very cheap by a very generous dude on thefpsreview forums in January, and then another friend decided to cover the cost of the card + shipping & insurance. So essentially I got a free RTX 3090. So I'm good. Very nice upgrade over my 1080 Ti, basically double the performance (for like 3x the power consumption, hahahahaha).
Just sounds like one of those people with lots of extra money who don't mind giving away virtually free stuff when they buy the next new thing. So a bit more information. Well I was super paranoid about it, and I didn't trust his ass or the cards. I probably would not have gone through with the deal, to be honest. But my friend said the cost of the cards was so low that it was a low risk to grab them, and even if the cards crapped out in a few months, we wouldn't be out much money. My friend was the one who convinced me to go through with it, although him covering the cost of both cards + shipping & insurance is what really convinced me. His money, his risk, so I said sure, why the fuck not. And I'm damn glad things turned out this way, cuz he was right. Been working out great for us so far.Just sounds like one of those people with lots of extra money who don't mind giving away virtually free stuff when they buy the next new thing.
The definition of a good friend: he sacrifices $$ to do a nice thing for you. My guy decided against returning his 4090 so he could sell it to me. $1500 for his brand new/sealed 4090 Suprim X. It'll be a couple weeks until he's back in town, but this officially became my favorite Friday night of all time!!No 4090 for me. Newegg agreed to accept the return since my guy never opened the box. Guess I'll just stick with my 3080 until I find a good price on a 4080.
