Anyone play 'The Witcher' before?

Many will say yes, probably very few if any would say no.

What do you look for?

I've heard it's a heck of a game and a steal for $5 from many of my friends. I couldn't say no to that price. :p However, as Parmenides said, what are you looking for?

It's sort of a cross between something like Diablo and Dragon Age, except more eastern European and with more boobies.

ya it's pretty good, the first act is weak but after than it gets really good. It's certainly worth the 5$.

Meh, I felt it was a blah game. The combat is repetitive as-hell, and you have to constantly change your combat stance from one enemy to the next (more mouse clicks). On top of that, during combat you were expected to recognize patterns and time your defense or die.

I'd expect this kind of gameplay from a fun little platformer game, but not from an RPG. It just felt like a lot of mouse clicking and not a lot of actual fun.

Guess we'll find out. I just snagged it. Been hearing a lot about The Witcher 2, so I figured it was about time to give the original a try. When it came out I wasn't interested because Oblivion was still filling my RPG need, so I didn't feel the drive to buy another one, even if it does have different game mechanics.

Absolutely flippin' yes. In my opinion the hands on gameplay and unique and interesting story and setting makes for a better rollplaying game than most. It surpasses the recent Bioware games for me

could have used a little more gear looting though :)

Great game. Easily one of the best I've ever played, if not the best. For $5 there's no question in my mind.

Boobies!? Does this game have like 18+ stuffs in it?

I am not against nudity, just don't want to have an awkward moment with my family.

I started it a few times and never got far because it just felt kind of meh. But a few months ago I finally got passed Chapter 1 and it got ALOT better. Damn, damn good game.

The beginning of the game is the worst part and a poor indicator of the quality of the entire game. Chapter 2 of the Witcher was some of the best RPG gaming I've ever played in my life. The way the long complex questlines were intertwined was awesome, not something you see even from the best of RPGs. That chapter alone was worth the cost of the game.

It depends if you got the dumbed down censored American version, or the uncensored version. I think the enhanced edition director's cut is the unedited version.

Anyhow yes, there are some sex scenes (nothing too graphic), some game models are topless, pictures with topless maidens, some foul/adult language occasionally.

Yes.

Also, I played The Witcher at first then lost interest but for 5 bucks to have it on Steam, I'll give it a shot again. Especially since I first hated Dragon Age but once I understood how to play it, it got immensely more fun for me.

I'm gonna re buy it, for $5 to have it tied to my Steam account

I did play like up to the end of chapter 1, till i got to the point where I defeated the first boss. Stopped after that.

This is definitely a game i'm gonna get through.

I BOUGHT IT BEFORE THEY FIXED THE TRANSLATIONS!!!!

does anyone remember how badly mangled the translation was when it first came out? I was laughing my ass off at some of the huge errors in it. I'm sure i wasn't alone.

They did fix it and released quite a few patches/updates. That makes them an A+ developer in my book. They didn't get it right the first time, BUT, unlike a LOT of companies, they patched it and made it was right as they could.

Meh, found the game to be sub par. The controls were sloppy and the game-play wasn't interesting at all. Loved the cut-scenes, but ended up quitting after a couple hours as there are tons of better things to play.

I am DL the game now. Hope I like it :) I liked Gothic 3 and Risen and I liked Oblivion, good chance I will be able to get into The Witcher as well.

It's a great game. As others have mentioned, the first chapter isn't that great, and a lot of people stop there, unfortunately. It really picks up after that.

Fantastic game. I loved every minute of it. For 5 dollars its really a no brainer if you like RPG's. Plus Geralt is the ultimate bad ass.

witcher 1 was easily GOTY for me. witcher 2 will have some stiff competition in 2011 so we'll have to see. i'm kind of glad 2 was delayed. it gives me more time to get a new save game file for transferring into 2. i haven't played the new enhanced edition with the new voiceovers and inventory system. got the game after the first couple of patches that cleared up the major issues at release.

If you're wanting further endorsement, I bought it again on Steam just to give myself a copy on Steam as well for future use :p

I played TW:Enhanced Edition, so most of the bugs were fixed in that release. There were a few towards the very end (some stuttering and broken subtitles), but nothing that detracted significantly from the gameplay.

Anyway, TW was one of the very best Action RPGs that I've played. Worth every single penny..starts off a bit slowly, but picks up the pace after the first few missions; play it through to the end...you wont regret it.

Starts off a bit slow but picks up pace quickly in the next few hours. Great story, atmosphere and voice acting. I was quite happy with the game at $30, $5 is a steal.

Yup, the first couple hours are a bit like an MMO newbie zone I suppose. Didn't bother me at all, the game as a whole was quite good.

Sufficed to say, good thing Witchers can't get STDs. Geralt is the Sean Connerry James Bond of Fantasy RPG heros.

A fantastic game at full price, easily one of my all-time favourites. At $5, you shouldn't even need to ask :)

A steal at $5. It was well worth its full price.

You do need to get into the second act before you make a decision on the overall game.

As far as the "pornography" there isn't any. There are some "Geralt gittin' some luvin'" cut scenes, but they are mild and less then what you would find on primetime TV. There are some boobs shown on the "conquest cards".

I just played it some today. Not bad, just learning the mechanics really. I thought I saw a fatality during combat, and Geralt performed some acrobatics without my input.

The combat is a little different than what I was expecting. I was thinking it would be more along the lines of Gothic or Oblivion, but this is fine.

When was this game released? Playing maxed grafx it looks a little bit dated, not too bad. I am just coming off Risen which looked pretty nice. Anyway, so far so good, seems to be well worth the $5.
