Anyone have any high powered GPU's in a rackmount case?

I'm thinking of throwing my bitcoin mining machine in a rackmount case, but I'm concerned about vertical clearance with the power supply plugs. Since the cards have the power sockets on the side, when oriented in a rackmount case they would actually be facing up.

Are you able to close the top of the case while the external power is connected to the cards?

What cases have you successfully used?

a 4u rack case is basically a mid tower case turned onto it side, there is plenty of clearance for plugs and what not. a 3u case I don't think would work though.

I run a higher end card in a 4u case and it fits just fine

How many expansion slits/slots do you have on the 4u case. I was looking for a rackmount that would let me fit 3 cards in but haven't found one that wasn't outrageously expensive.

If you are.actually getting coin once per decade then I would use your coin and get a supermicro chassis with dual 800 psus and a ton of slot spaces for your mobo. Get a dual socket tyan and dual 6/12 CPU's and run a CPU and gpu mine at same time.

You can look for a 19" chassis which is specially made for CUDA. Those have 8 expansion slots and allow you to install 4 dual-slot cards (or 3 cards that are one slot apart from each other), and they come with PSUs that can handle the power draw.

Chenbro RM41300G (4U) is a variant of the RM41300 case http://www.chenbro.com/corporatesite/products_detail.php?sku=160

That would be a perfect case but anyone know where to find, a quick search on google didn't come up with anything.

This would be a nice case but to much money for things not needed. [ame="http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Supermicro-CSE-747TQ-R1400B-1400W-4U-Server-Chassis-/220688551711?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3362100f1f#ht_3327wt_905"]New Supermicro CSE-747TQ-R1400B 1400W 4U Server Chassis | eBay[/ame]

If you live in North America, there are several Canadian e-tailers that list the Chenbro chassis.

EDIT: If price is your primary concern, get an Antec One Hundred case [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Antec-One-Hundred-Computer-Case/dp/accessories/B004AGXHKK"]Amazon.com: Antec One Hundred Computer Case: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51HQ9P66kxL.@@AMEPARAM@@51HQ9P66kxL[/ame]

Thanks for the link, however at that price I might go back to looking at the haf x or raven series cases since they also support 8 expansion slots, granted they can't be racked... hmmm what to do what to do
