Anyone familiar with older Avaya/Lucent digital phone systems?

I'm curious if MLX-10D phones (and equivalents) can be swapped with 8410D (and equivalent) phones.

On the outside, they look pretty similar. Some buttons are labeled differently and slightly different colors. the MLX however should be used with Merlin Legend systems and the 8410D used with Definity systems. Are the phones compatible with the different systems?

Can't seem to find the answer anywhere online.

They're both digital handsets right? I can't remember from when I worked IT for and Avaya/Lucent dealer specifically, but if they're both digital it won't harm anything to try.

I have a friend who used to work for Avaya and has been installing Avaya/Lucent phone systems for years. If you don't get your answer, let me know.

Just submitted this question to that forum.

If it's not too big of a deal for you, that would be awesome if you could ask. I'll reply back here a week from now or so if I don't get any response from that forum.

Thanks!

Nope.

"They are not interchangeable. 8410's use 2 pair. Orange and green. Merlin phones use at least 3 pair, some older ones use all 4 pair. "

thanks! Good to know.

Heard back from that other forum saying they weren't compatible either.

my questions are now all answered.
