Anyone buying a 4090 now?

The dude just creeps me the f out, also sounds like an idiot.

I lost a bit of respect for GN during the initial 7800X3D launch where he was going "oh no! 7800X3Ds are EXPLODING! This is a huge deal! Buuut...we won't tell you what you guys can/should do right now, you'll have to wait for our full length video for that!" Like seriously? If it was a major problem, why the fuck wouldn't you just tell the public what they should do IMMEDIATELY, instead you tell people to wait for your dam video smh.

I sold my 1080ti and got a 4070..........and I'm not sure I notice a difference. But I am not a professional gamer. Diablo 4 @4k maybe a little faster/smoother.

GN is still by far and away a net benefit to the community. I don’t like his incessant cynicism and sarcasm in every single video, and while I like he’s doing investigative journalism, the videos are simply too long for me to watch. I’ll take GN over LTT any day but lately I’ve been gravitating more towards HUB

I agree on the videos. Way too long to watch, and also too much work. Too much skipping babble and pausing on the charts. His Intel fab tour video was pretty good though. That one is worth a look, or at least I thought it was interesting and learned a few things. The sheer scale of the construction project at the beginning was probably my favorite part though. erek posted it in this thread: https://hardforum.com/threads/the-future-of-intel.2037149/

I agree overall he's still positive, but I hope for future instances where there are severe hardware issues he will not pull the same thing again. If it's a serious matter, just inform the public ASAP rather than tell everyone they'll need to wait for your video to publish.

Agreed. I paid $6k for a guitar last year that will likely last me my entire life. Seems nuts to spend $4k and up on a computer that will be good playing new games for for what, 5 years? And most AAA games range anywhere from garbage to mediocre.
It really all depends how much enjoyment one gets out of it. PC gaming, while getting pretty pricey historically speaking, is still quite affordable compared to many hobbies. I’m a desert rat in the winter with the season going from October-April. In the last couple years I’ve upped my game with a sports side by side, 28’ enclosed trailer and a truck to tow it all. That’s about 130k for a hobby that I can only really partake in for half the year and in those 6 months I may plan 6 trips. 4k for something I can use daily if I so desire is a bargain by comparison. Especially when you consider how expensive everything has become in the last half decade.

Surprised? That’s like every new gen. They’ve had the cycle figured out for a while now.
Not really, but thought we may get some sales holiday time, let's see if the 5xxx launch starts an Ampere like madness, getting that 3080 on the zotac store was my first experience really trying to get a GPU..

I have to see how much vram 5090 has. I was looking at possibly getting a dual slot 4090 48 gb or two but not sure with the 5090 so close to release.

There’s no such thing as a 48 GB 4090
The electronics store in Chinatown wanted $3000 for a 48 gb 4090 which I think is too much. They said they would drop the price to $1500 if I provided a 4090 for them to extract the chips from which leads me to believe someone at the shop knew how to do the mod. The 48 gb modded cards are custom pcb 2 slot blower style fairly loud under load. I was talking to my friend in Hong Kong and they could only get 4090D 48 gb for $2500 no full 4090. Still is high when the 5090 is releasing soon. Will just get a 5090 when I do my build next year maybe they will have a 64 gb or higher 5090 mod and may get that depending on the price.
