Hi,

Anybody who has the Asus "A9600 XT/TVD" or "A9600 XT/TD". What's the difference between the TVD and TD model by the way?!

What I would like to know is how noisy is it cause I want to build a silent PC, I mean if I
look a the graphics over here: http://www.asus.com/products/vga/smartcooling.htm
it seems that that as soon as your card reaches 50°C (which happens fast under
load I've heard with these kind of cards), it goes to + 3000rpm. Isn't that noisy?!

Also, is 3000 rpm (according to: http://www.asus.com/products/vga/smartcooling.htm) the lowest rpm you can go or is that not the graphic of the 9600 XT model? How much db does that give cause 3000 rpm is still quite much if you know that Zalman's ZM-OP1 fan in silent mode only makes 1400rpm which gives only 20db according to the Zalman site. How low can you set this fan (perhaps it's still best to choose fixed mode or not)?!
How much rpm is the lowest fixed mode by the way?!

PS: isn't this picture more like how it looks with the 9600 XT: http://www.tomshardware.com/firstlook/20040119/asus-01.html Seems like it doesn't work with fixed speeds like in the above picture but with a percentage of fan power level. Can you set it then below 3000 rpm or woud the card become too hot then anyway. Does the card tell you the current rpm by the way? Anyway, how come the Zalman can go so much lower (1400rpm). Is 3000 rpm really below 30db?!..

Anybody could clarify all this! Thanks!

Mike.

If you buy that card, I recommend getting a zalman silent cooler for it. The fan on mine was BS and it would stop randomly so instead of RMA'ing it, I just went to microcenter and grabbed a new cooler. The zalman lets me oc higher and it does it SILENTLY. Also, if you want to get hardcore with it, you can always mod your case and throw a 120mm fan over the cooler. I'd be willing to bet you could get it up past 700 core...
