I have not played Half Life 2 at all. I refuse to pay for/support software that utilizes any form of DRM that requires activation when its installed. I just don't like the idea and won't support it. It does not stop piracy. It doesn't even slow it down. It only inconveniences the end user who legitimately payed for the license to use the software.

Same feeling when I finally put Dead Rising into my 360 earlier this week after owning the game for half a year.
what? you mean you couldnt even meet these requirements until now: Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection<--- Never played hl2. Never had a rig capable until recently. HL1 ruled.

Is there anyone here that has NOT ever played Half life 2?
Explain if you havent (please dont turn this into a crap thread as I have a secret agenda)
Saying Steam doesn't slow piracy down at all just shows you don't know what Steam is about.
There are pretty much two companies whose games aren't getting pirated out the ass right now. Valve and Blizzard.

ouch. I played it on a celeron and mx440. AvP2 was the first pc game I ever played and HL2 was the second. HL2 got me hooked on pc gaming because it was so much fun. anybody that refuses to play it because of Steam doesnt deserve to even know how much fun they are missing out on.Well, my PC was also really horrible until 2005. I built that PC specifically because I heard people say how HL2 rocked, and I couldn't even hope to have it play on my dual 400MHz Celeron machine with 256MB of ram and a Hercules Kyro II card.

yep my mx440 ran HL2 much better in DX7 than the 5200 could do in DX8.1. Valve made it possible for almost anybody to play the game and it looked great even in DX7.Had a athlon 1.4ghz 512MB ram and a geforce 5200 for the LONGEST time. the 5200 wasn't much of an upgrade from my original geforce 3. It barely played DAOC, let alone hl2. Now have a p4 3.4 8600gt 2GB ram.
Leepox said:Oh my god another person whining about not supporting a game because of DRM. Well too bad, youre loss on a gaming experience anyway. And to think of it, a person having a beef at steam? You must be nuts.
synergyo1 said:I agree that DRM can hurt the innocent more so than the pirates if it is implemented poorly. But honestly, Steam has not inconvenienced me. If anything it made my life more easier. What is so inconvenient about Steam anyway? At the moment it seems you are against it on principle and haven't even tried it out.

My bet is that OP has an extra copy of HL2 that came free w/ orange box, so whoever hasn't played first the OP will give the code too!
Foiled OP, btw, I played it
you CAN play in offline mode. heck if you fire it up without an internet connection it will even ask you if you want to play in offline mode. for someone that has had Steam for 4 years how could you not know that?????My only grievance with Steam is that it requires you to have an internet connection to play single player games. This hasn't been a problem for me yet but it likely will towards the end of October until February. The reason is that I am in the military and will be in Afghanistan. There are many military gamers who would love to be able to fire up HL2 while deployed but cant due to lack of free connection (free meaning, not a secure government encrypted network). This scenario is the main reason I haven't bought other single player games off of steam. I doubt it will be a big deal for me though seeing that I will have Far Cry2, Fallout3, Spore, STALKER Clear Sky, and possibly Crysis Warhead and Project Origin to keep me company. Unfortunately I will miss Left 4 Dead and Deadspace and will have to play them when I return. It would be nice if Valve offered a way for people like me who have a history of having Steam Installed (4+ years now) able to play their games offline.
I have some gift copies as well if anyone wants them.

EDIT: the game does have to be up to date to go offline
To be completely honest I am against it on principle alone. I have not personally tried steam or any service that is like it. I'm not saying that nobody else should its just not for me.
