Any way to run a 290 with 4GB of system RAM?

I can run my 280's on a system with only 4GB RAM but when I tried it on my 290 rig it would error. I've read about this before. It seems to be an issue with high thread concurrencies.

Does anyone know if you can run a 290 with 4GB RAM at 32765 thread concurrency?

I have to turn down the TC on systems with 4gb of RAM. I still get 800 kh/s on the 290.

So does the amount of system ram needed multiply per card?

I saw a relatively good price on Sapphire Tri-x OC 290's here at Newegg Canada (cheapest out of all retailers so far)... was gonna order 3 of them... need to know if I will need to boost my RAM as well.

EDIT: Apparently, there have been people who have been able to get these, out of the box, running at 900+KH/s. I have 8GB now... would I need 16GB for 3 of them?

Eh I'd rather pay an extra $40 and have the 10% extra hash from using 32765 threadcount. Any way to run with 4gb of ram and keep thread count up?

Are you sure the card can even handle the 32xxx TC? One of mine only likes up to about 30xxx or just under otherwise it dies after a while.

On my R9 290 Tri-X cards I've gotten up to 880 KH/s, using 25601 TC and 4GB RAM.

This was not anywhere near max memory/core clocks that the card can handle, so most likely it can do over 900 at this TC, but I haven't had time to try pushing them further yet.

I remember reading that BAMT or ubuntu dont require as much ram for the mining. Also for tc you can lower it and does not multiply ram use for more cards. You really just need it to initially buffer the stratum data to the gpu.

Even with 16GB of ram in one of my systems I can't go above 30,000 TC so I stay at 27400 and still get 875 apeice.

I've got only one set of 290s that will run the 32768 TC value. The others don't like cooperating at anything over 27-28k. These rigs all have 8 GB ram, 4 cards each. TC 27400 seems to work well for the non-conformist cards.

I also have 2 290s that take 32768 with 8GB of system RAM. Those 2 are in a rig with 2 other 270s. I have one more 290 alone, in my main rig and while it won't crash or error with 32768, it hashes better at 20481.

I'd assume the 32765 is at -g 1? Maybe try somewhere between about 8193 and 16384 at -g 2. It'll probably work even better on sgminer with -X 4 intensity instead of the regular intensity setting.

I've got an old P4 system with 2GB of memory that chokes hard with a R9 270 at a TC any higher than about 13000 and -g 1. Thing does 495 kH/s all day at TC of 8193 -X 4 -g 2.
