Just having fun with measurements, there are some benchmark gains with new HW most peeps do not notice it. Have a good night.

Totally agree in most cases!

The 2080 Ti to 3090 - no "gaming feel" improvement (3440x1440/120Hz, ARK: Survival Evolved)
The 5820K/5960X to 9900KS - big "gaming feel" improvement - butprobably not ~80% worth.

I just like 3DMark as a pretty universal way to measure things. It's not perfect, but it's easy enough to run!

FWIW:

10,012 - 5820K @ 4.54GHz (1.30v); 32GB DDR4 @ 2800MHz; stock 2080 FE
13,628 - 9900KS @ 5GHz (stock); 64GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz; stock 2080 Ti FE (outgoing GPU - replaced by 3090 FE)
18,084 - 9900KS @ 5GHz (stock); 64GB DDR @ 3200MHz; stock 3090 FE

84.5% higher CPU score...9900KS versus 5820K.
I was going to say... if you drop that 2080Ti or 3090 in the 5820k vs the 9900KS and ran tests at 2K and 4K, I bet the difference is damn near negligible at those resolutions (GPU score only obviously).

This article is fairly relevant to the discussion and I have come across it before:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-3900xt/17.html

I can easily beat a 2000 series AMD chip, so those graphs can put things into perspective for Haswell-e (as they did not specifically test Haswell-e). I can touch the performance of the 8 series Intel with my OC as well (and they also tested those chips). Very good read and graphs for those wondering how a CPU may or may not matter for the resolutions they game at. At some of the lower resolutions, they even through in some very weak CPUs to mix things up a bit. :)

Yeah, I don't think anyone would say X99 is dead for modern games. Even when I upgraded last year it was mostly due to wanting a project for some time off that I was taking. However, I was shocked at how much the smoothness of games was affected. Even if FPS is similar the average frame overall was much higher (less dips and less drastic dips) and that led to better consistency.
