Any real difference between internal wifi card and external dongle?

I was curious if there's any real difference in speed or performance when comparing an internal card as opposed to those external USB Dongles?

usb dongles SUCK, low powered and garbage, the usb port can only provide 500ma to a usb device, any more it slows down.

Internal pci / x cards for desktops are FAR better, and if you need more range buy a extended antenna, those usb stick wifi are garbage.
