just curious if anyone had some first-hand experience with it. It's tempting to experiment with...

Yeah guess i should have linked it :) thanks

So glad you created the thread. I would get something like this in a heartbeat. Trying to figure out what the support for current VR games is. VR is so new, but I love Open Source projects.

Great list, looks like you can swap it with a vive display? Gonna have to research this more

OSVR Announces $399 HDK 2 Headset with 2160×1200 Resolution that is coming in July. The $299 version will remain available as an option.
OSVR Announces $399 HDK 2 Headset with 2160x1200 Resolution

The new HDK 2 will be nearly identical to the prior most recent HDK 1.4, save for a new and improved display which increases the resolution and frame rate to 2160×1200 and 90 FPS, respectively, matching the paper specs of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Crucially, the HDK 2’s new display also brings with it low-persistence functionality, allowing for a major reduction in blur seen during head movement in VR.

And because its modular i bet you can swap in the new display on the 1.4 unless the hardware changed significantly.

The reddit is a good source
snip*

It seems that the latest steamvr update broke it but its being fixed. I really like how its modular, and since i have a 3d printer i could theoretically make extra or modified parts for it.

Fix that reddit link please.. It links to moble

I'm going to pick up one to do some VR game dev - price point definitely is attractive.

A few tweets and upgrade guide that I found interesting. The Playstation Move Fruit Ninja video was awesome so I posted it first! One day the person playing will learn that he has 2 hands / swords. ;)

IFIXIT guide from the tweet.
Razer OSVR HDK 1.4 Screen Replacement

Still haven't see the new version of the headset in the Razer Store. Lots of days left in July so no big deal I suppose.

I keep checking the status of HDK v2 - really wanting to hook it into my DX12 homebrew stuff I've been deep diving into.

CV1 is the same resolution, but the screens themselves are slightly smaller I believe. Probably not a HUGE difference but I imagine a little?

I was looking at some on EBAY. I saw a 1.3 that looked like it was in my price category. Wondering about the screen though.

This one to be exact: OSVR Hacker Dev Kit v1.3 Wonder when they will start selling the screens separately?

I saw this comparison.

Then there is the comparison with the HDK2

I'm interested to see how Razer's epically bad quality plays into this. The price is good and I've had my eye on this for a while, but it's Razer...

Ordered one last week - says it ships this Friday. Will reply back on my thoughts. I have personally used a Hololens at the BUILD conference earlier this year and will compare it to that.

I am tempted with these as well, two free games if bought by 7/28. Price is OK for experimentation plus the OSVR controllers should be interesting as they get released, many will probably never cut it but some will probably be very inventive and good. Looks like a good sit down solution, Dirt Rally supports as well as Pcars and virtually any SteamVR game for keyboard/mouse/controller.

Are you a developer also?

Yeah I develop mainly enterprise SaaS software (REST services, Native Mobile Apps, Web Apps), but do game dev in my free time. Really excited to dive into VR when it comes in. Pre-ordered a Hololens back in January, but it has yet to ship.

Replying back - just got shipping notice of the HDK 2, should have it Saturday.
Any update on this? Thoughts? Games tried or works?

Amazon has these available and can be shipped overnight. I am tempted but really not many reviews out there. Looks to be still more a developer kit then a consumer device but could be very fun to play around with.

A quick and dirty write up:

Hooked it up, installed the drivers and the SteamVR plugin - SteamVR picked it up and was rocking and rolling into Raw Data.

Weird issue that the display was flipped - easy solution was to just flip it in the Display Properties in Windows 10

The motion controller requirement in Raw Data kind of sucked - mouse input kind of worked and the head tracking worked nice. Hoping to get some motion controllers that are compatible to give better feedback.

The corrective lens worked well - my vision isn't the greatest so I wear glasses when doing dev at 4k in VS, but it corrected perfectly. I tried the demos that are on osvr's website that had mouse and keyboard support - worked nicely on my 480s.

Comfort was so-so - my 10-15 minutes with a hololens back at the BUILD conference earlier this year was definitely more comfortable.

Overall I think it has potential, but it definitely is more hacker than consumer device.

Vive ones, PS Move, Oculus Touch (eventually)...that's about it.

Not sure which you can get working with OSVR.

Thanks for the update, I hope others will join in as well. Tempting buy but just don't have the extra time to fiddle at this time nor do I want to pay $800 for the Vive. I hope the OSVR HDK2 sells well and help drive down the prices. I may jump aboard at anytime but will be patient.
