Any new GTX 460 owners want to share their experiences and impressions?

I've had a Gainward GTX 460 GS 2gb for a few days now and can't believe how much smoother this card runs than my trusty old 8800GTS 640mb. Its like butter with everything i throw at it. Excellent card. Went for the 2gb as Metro 2033 is already pulling ~950mb at 1920x1080 and thats been out a while now.

The only problem i have is with the temperatures when running dual screens. 2 screens increases temps to a quite frankly scary level. Here are the result of my tests.

Single Monitor

Stock Clocks. Automatic fan.
Idle = 41c
Load = 70c

Stock Clocks. 100% fan.
Idle = 36c
Load = 70c

Core 800mhz Automatic fan
Idle = 47c
Load = 84c

Core 800mhz .100% fan
Idle = 44c
Load = 84c

Dual Monitor

Stock Clocks. Automatic fan.
Idle = 60c
Load = 93c

Stock Clocks. 100% fan.
Idle = 54c
Load = 93c

Core 800mhz Automatic fan
Idle = 70c
Load = 93c

Core 800mhz .100% fan
Idle = 54c
Load = 93c

Now those temps were taken while playing the Gothic 4 demo which maxes out the GPU even when sitting on the menu screen :eek: But i figured it was a decent benchmark for future games having large textures, complicated geometry and shaders and a big draw distance.

Most other newer games top out at about 85c, with Oblivion with a bucket load of mods and texture packs topping 70c.

Think i should disable my second monitor when i game. Pain in the arse having to do that though :D

Got a PNY GTX 460 1GB two days ago. Plain Jane little card - utterly reference in every way (675 Mhz, Nvidia reference cooler). Still, with a moderate OC of 800/1600/950 is running my games quite nicely. With Fallout 3, Sacred 2 and Divinity II Ego Draconis its only hitting 64C at max in a small Lian Li mini ATX tower case. Furmark for 20 minutes just hit 68C. Plus its not gone over 40% fan speed yet and I absolutely can't hear it over my case fans. It may look boring, but Nvidia did a great job with that stock cooler.

Replaced my 2 year old 4870X2 with an EVGA GTX 460 1GB (1365TR EE version) card 2 days just to see if it really lived up to all the hype.
I have to say it may be one of the best cards I've purchased in a long time. Turned it up to 810/1620/1975 just playing around and the temps are barely higher than stock clock temps I think the highest temp I've seen so far running the EVGA OC scanner test is 65c. To be honest it's more than I expected in a $200 video card.

So mark me down as someone very happy with their purchase and looking forward to testing a pair out in SLI in a new build here in a couple weeks.

Just played civilization V at 2650x1600 with 2x just fine, though it did make my Palit version of the card scream the entire time.

Completely happy with the card and I paid 210 for my card on release a few months ago and the price is now 230 for the same card. Always nice to see the price not drop 100 bucks the week after buying it.

Replaced my 8800gtx with 2 gigabyte 1gb 460's (have an i7 920 @ 3.8ghz). Had the 8800gtx with the i7 since the D0's came out (and the 8800gtx a couple months after release). Monitor is 1920x1200, HUGE difference. Games were actually making me run on mediumish-high settings, now everything is always max all the time with various levels of AA. BC2 (was giving me big problems), all max with 16XQSAA, simply because its the max setting and it remains playable until theres TONS of smoke, which is pretty rare - and it usually means I'm dead too due to it being some unfriendly explosion. SC2 gives me a bit of trouble with scaling (and 1 specific issue with water), but other than that much better. Most other games force me to use vsync because of the screen tearing, which I think is a good thing.

I just sli'd to MSI GTX460's and it works perfect. I haven't played much with it yet, but Batman:Arkham Asylum looks great.

had to RMA my GTX 460 1GB EE from EVGA... was running super hot in a matter of moments... got a new card from them just a week later...

32-38'c idle, nothing over 82'c in gaming, 1920x1080 res, and all games maxed out as much as the card will allow. Very happy with this card. Upgraded from a EVGA GTX 275 896MB.

Running MSI Afterburner on EVGA GTX460 1GB SLI at 800/1600/2000. Max temp on either card playing Metro 2033 was 87C over the course of half an hour. Think I could push it more?

Just got my Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB running at 825 core 950 memory. 35 idle, max temp is 69 C in Furmark.

I'm using an Apple 27" display as the screen, would SLI 460's be able to drive it at good FPS at native res? 2560x1440?

For the most part, yes. There will only be a few games where it'll have problems, mainly due to limitations the the amount of VRAM and bandwidth.

Using msi afterburner. I got 900/1800/2100 by maxing out the voltage which was 1087mV, set the fan to 57% and you are at 63c underload or 27c idle. :)

My first impression is really great. I totally think that this 460 is the next 8800 GT card. This will mean it'll last for years being capable of playing many games and as evident by the benchmarks of single / sli'd 460 beating many higher end cards even in CF/SLI so it's really a great value of your money.

I'm happy to have mine.

I have a Palit Sonic GTX 460 1GB (not the platinum version) and it overclocks to 850/2000 at stock voltage. It uses the same custom PCB as the Sonic Platinum and Gainward Golden sample cards but was a whole lot cheaper. The side-mounted power connectors are very useful, this is the first video card I've put in my Silverstone SUGO SG-03 that hasn't looked crammed in.

I bought an MSI Cyclone GTX460 1gb the other day.

Paid $173 for it with no rebates as a Newegg open box

Runs TF2 with all settings cranked and 16x AA and vsync on. Looks beautiful. Big fan is prettty quiet too, and it seems to hang high 50s degrees celsius when gaming.

Very happy with it. Replaced my MSI Radeon HD 5750, which I am planning on selling soon.

Got an evga gtx460 768mb running furmark stable at 835/1670/2000 no higher than 63c. :)

EDIT: now at 850/1700/2100

I don't understand how you or anyone else are getting stable memory overclocks at 2000 or 2100. I get failed overclocks if I simply raise the memory to 1900 in furmark (and that's supposedly not a good test of memory speed?). Looking at the HardOCP review, they were only able to get a memory overclock of 1818 without upping the voltage, and even then it was nowhere near 1900:

Am I doing something wrong, or is everyone else just not testing for stability?

If it makes a difference, i've got my current overclock to 870/1800 with the voltage at 1.087.

I am not able to get Afterburner to play nice here...when running Kombustor, if I open Afterburner the clocks go down regardless if the card is default or overclocked. Using Nvidia Inspector to clock with atm...

I just got the Gigabyte GTX460OC 1GB yesterday and I've just been playing around with it for a few hours.

I LOVE it! I instantly overclocked the card to a modest 800/1600/1900 and it never get's past 64 Celcius. Even better I haven't seen the fan go over 46% yet, I am very pleased.

I'm running the 260.63 drivers and it seems to be eating Fallout for dinner plus Bad Company 2 got a whole lot prettier. All in all a very nice upgrade from my aging 8800GTS 640MB.

you must have a bad ocing card. I just got mine stable at 960/1920/2100 at 1.087 and no it wont got any higher than that. :(

Ah, so YOU'RE the one that snagged that card, lol. Is it quiet or "super quiet"? I'm looking at the 1gb Cyclone.

Just installed a Hawk Talon Attack GTX460, 810/3900 .4ns memory. Seems great
Previous card was a EVGA GTX260 which has been flawless but I wanted DX11 and something new to play with.

1gb cyclone @ 1.087v

865/1730/2100 OCCT stable, 905/1810/2100 furmark/vantage stable

max temps are: mid 60's in OCCT, high 50's in furmark/kombuster/vantage, gaming mid 40's, idle low 30's - love it

although i'm still waiting for 480 prices to drop so i can put one under water, either that or see what 69xx offers

can't help but buy newly released goodies

With the current drivers and dual monitors, does the card clock down at idle, or is it still running at almost full speed (bug?)

Have had mine about 2 weeks and love it.What little overclocking that I have done results in 850/1700/3900.Running at stock speeds as of now.

Not sure if it is typical or not:

voltage1037

1001mhz core
2000mhz shader
2123mhz memory

This the retail Nvidia branded model from Best Buy. Max settings in BFBC2 and it is stable @ 1280x1040.
Maybe the core has more to go but the slider is maxed out in afterburner:) Max temp 63

:eek::eek::eek:

Congrats on the 1Ghz.

Anyone else plays F1 2010 with a GTX460?

I'm having issues even hitting 800mhz on the core on my Gigabyte 1GB. I can clock it there fine, the temps are fine, and I don't get any graphical glitches and can actually play games fine.

The computer is just unstable and I can't figure out if it's the card or either Afterburner or Precision (I've tried both) themselves being finicky. The PC will either hang or just not bring video back up properly when coming back from sleep, and only one time actually completely froze on the desktop. This is all happening without running any kind of stress test.

Granted, I haven't tried upping voltage yet, so maybe that's next. Then again, I'm debating how much energy to put into this if I'm having this much trouble hitting even just 800 on the core.

Did you compress that picture with a windows 95 machine or is that just the artifacting your desktop experiences at that speed?:p

Quick sloppy gif in Gimp. So this card is maxed out on the sliders in Afterburner. It is also air cooled.
