Any idea when the 10th gen mainstream will be on the market?

Anyone know? I want a 9900k so much coz my 3770k is bottleneck some of my games now. But if 10th gen will be out in a month, its worth to wait coz 9900k will be cheaper because Intel will cut price of main stream 10th gen like HEDT or the 10th gen equivalent to 9900k will be better.

Intel doesn't cut old gen prices FYI.

If just for gaming... AMD 3600?

they won't cut prices because the only thing they're releasing is hedt chips, 9900k will continue to be the top processor for lga1151 well into 2020.

Clearly Ryzen 3600 (6 core better IPC) or even 2700 (8 core) for gaming. There are some sales for the 2700 at 150$ which is a silly price for that CPU (you even get a good enough cooler with it if you don't OC). The interesting part is that new games don't bother too much of the mono-core performance but rely on multi-core performance. Ryzen 2600 is enough but 3600 or 2700 is future proof for around 2 years for sure. Then the rest relies all on the graphics card. If you want to spend money for the next 5 years, get a 3900X on a X570 motherboard today with plenty of RAM (like 64GB). It may be still very much okay by 2025 standards even if you'll need to upgrade your graphics card once or twice.

Well, given Intel's socket strategy, it's likely to be the top processor for LGA1151 forever :D
And according to that same socket roadmap, the 10th Generation mainstream CPUs will use a completely different socket dubbed LGA 1200, which will be completely incompatible with the current LGA 1151.

9900k isnt dropping in price jr...... 10th gen cpus which are about to get released are just 9th gen cpus with hardly any changes other then prices that are down to earth.

I'll bet it will still have the same mounting holes so you don't have to go buy new CPU HSF's. I mean, if Intel made money on those too, you'd have new spacing every generation also :p.
