Any benefits or "future proofing" by going from z370 to 390?

Currently using an MSI Z370 Gaming M5. It's not a bad motherboard, but I've come to despise some of its quirks, the worst being it likes to massively overvolt everything.

Is there any reason to move to a Z390 board? Or are they like the Z1/270-370 "upgrade" which were basically all the same motherboards?

I am still using my Aorus Gaming 5 motherboard with the Z370. Didn't feel the need to upgrade. Also with the latest bios my board can run a 9900K if I want, but my 8700K does fine. No future proofing with the Z390 as the new Intel processors will be moving on to another socket from what I've read.

No reason unless you have a bottom of the barrel Z370 and want to overclock a 9900K, rumor mill has it that the next gen of CPUs will be using a different socket anyway.

Only need to upgrade as mentioned if you are getting a 9900k in the future AND oc’ing it. The 370 can handle a stock 9900k but oc’ing taxes the power distribution too much to get much out of it.
