Future antivirus software should be very effective if this approach is fully realized. In some tests, deep learning has resulted in 20 percent higher detection than existing solutions.

Artificial neural networks, trained to recognize the characteristics of malicious code by looking at millions of examples of malware and non-malware files, could perhaps offer a far better way to catch such nefarious code. An approach known as deep learning, which involves training a network with many layers of simulated neurons using huge quantities of data, is being tested by several companies.

Wait until the neural networks figure out the humans are the ones making the viruses so...

It is like making something idiot proof, somebody makes a better idiot. The better you get at catching stuff the better the people making it get. Also one of the biggest issues isn't the computer it the fucktards at the computer or running the company. For companies you have people who refuse to spend money to do things right. Then in general you have the idiots that click on everything, give access to their computer to anyone who calls them on the phone and ask for it..

sister of somebody I know works at a dentist's office and was at work having trouble with her phone so did a search for Verizon and called the first number that came up in google. Fake support number. didn't find it odd that they said they needed access to her pc to fix her phone. So she went to the site they told her and gave them access to her work computer, let them have access for 30 minutes. At which point they told her to leave the phone off for 1 hour while some program runs on the computer than turn the phone back on and they hung up then. Who knows what information of their patients was stolen because of that.

same person I know, her husband got a virus and had a popup come up saying that his computer is infected and to call this number to remove it. He called, gave them access to their computer and was starting to give his credit card info to them when she walked in the door and stopped him.

customer called in last week. "IRS" called and needed full access to their computer along with their bank account info. Now their computer is acting strange now that they gave them access...

Doesn't matter how well you design detection software if joe public is retarded and will give anyone and everyone access to their computer using fully legal and legit software and allow them to do whatever they want.

I just hope it doesn't mimic my brain or else I'll have triple the amount of virus with all the porn sites I visit.:p

And this is why I firmly believe that anybody wanting to use any type of computer (smartphones included) should be required to take a course and be able to pass a computer competency test before being allowed to use a computer.

The amount of pure stupid in this world has stopped surprising me.

I mean, a large part of virus detection already has something in common with the human mind: the use of heuristics. What's funny to me is that people who fall for click bait or phishing links are likely relying on some silly heuristic when they let in a virus ;)

That's funny because end users without brains are usually the ones that catch the most malware.

Antivirus software that clicks on "make 2000 a week from home" and "meet lonely housewives in your area" links faster than any human could!
