Would you guys actually wear something like this just to avoid facial recognition? That lady looks like a parrot landed on her face.

The resultant patterns, which Harvey created in conjunction with international interaction studio Hyphen-Labs, can be worn or used to blanket an area. “It can be used to modify the environment around you, whether it’s someone next to you, whether you’re wearing it, maybe around your head or in a new way.”

While I don't have anything that I know of to worry about for facial recognition. I don't really understand the need for all of the crazyness from the tech to "protect us from ourselves". I think there was a movie like that... "we are protecting you from yourself and others before you actually do anything".. Ohwell rambling over.

But...
Couldn't we just wear one of those hooded sweatshirts with a zip up superhero face? Or a paper bag?

that is all well and good, but they also monitor silhouette, gait analysis and can cross reference with cell phone data to provide a legally verifiable location at a given time and place. Obscure your face will just make you feel more awkward while doing so. If you are going to those extreme lengths, you probably wouldn't be carrying a cell phone; still too little too late, with live in 1984.

Makes me think of the game "Mirrors Edge." This also makes me think it could be the main premise of a movie about our dystopian future to come.

Why not just get everybody on the same page and keep destroying the dumb cameras used for this type of crap until they give it up?

Hoodie with a mesh face mask might work just as well. However, there is a certain style to the woman's hair that I can see as appealing.

Guy Fawkes masks. Every single person should start wearing them AND carrying a spiked baseball bats.

"Hey look, Agent 321--it's that guy with the weird face paint again." Unless everyone in the crowd is using dazzle camo, and using the same pattern, it's not gonna do you much good.

Super easy to change your silhouette, gait, and also easy to turn off and/or remove the battery from your phone.

Screw facial recognition and other types of biometric monitoring.

I guess it depends on why I was trying to hide myself from facial recognition. I suppose if I was trying to pull off a casino heist or something maybe it would come in handy, but they'd probably have me locked in a dark room just for standing at a table dressed like that in the first place. :p

Finally we know why people dress like that in video games... I just thought it was an art department without enough oversight.

I'm going to file this in the same category as someone who wears a ski mask to hide his facial features... if you see something like that people might be focusing on you.

Um, maybe because destruction of other people's property is illegal. And I bet if someone close to you is assaulted, the first thing you will be hoping for is that it was caught on one of those cameras.

The time is long gone for the general population to moan about loss of personal privacy. Once we became dependent on the internet and all our portable connected devices, the die had been cast. Now live with your collective decision.

:p Mirror's Edge might have got that concept from the old Philip K. Dick book "A Scanner Darkly" written in the 1970s. This scramble suit is from the movie version released around 10 years ago:

And so the Boston Tea Party should not have happened?

There is such a thing as a government becoming too controlling of the citizens. At that point the citizens just basically become slaves of the state and something MUST be done about it.

If the government gets to the point of spying on everybody 24/7 just because they can and because they think it will give them complete control over the populace I sure hope that people will rise up and put a stop to it no matter what they have to do.

Now IF the cameras are ONLY used for real surveillance and ONLY reviewed when needed in order to catch criminals, then sure, go ahead.. but WITHOUT FACIAL RECOGNITION built into the recording system. IF they need to review the video later, they can run the video through a facial recognition program.

Or, if they want to speed up the process and have facial recognition built in and a database stored, then there should be required steps that must be taken to be granted access to the information.

As we have seen the last few years, this is NOT what is happening and the "law" can do whatever they want anytime they want thanks to the current DOJ as long as they keep out of the way of the left and do the bidding of the left.

It's sort of funny but these kinds of topics always take me back to when I worked as a contractor in Iraq supporting one of the biometrics programs the Army was using. Initially I was hired as a trainer, to fly from FOB to FOB delivering equipment and giving the troops training on how to use it.

So when we were training we had to demonstrate and practice how to capture the prints, the Iris scans, and the facial recognition photos. But we were always warned not to accidentally upload the information of Americans into the actual databases by accident, make sure we erase the data instead. Now I remember giving the Army my DNA, and that was so they could identify my body in cases where it was otherwise unidentifiable. And they took my prints long before as part of the security clearance thing. So I know they already have a great amount of data on me.

But it just seems a contrasting thing to remember how much they stressed not uploading US person data into the databases, (by stressed I mean they threatened legal action), compared to how so many people seem to automatically assume the government is collecting all they can on all of us. It just doesn't add up with my experiences is all.

Now commercial businesses, that's something different, for them, data is cash.

If you're really wanting to avoid facial detection, dress like the opposite sex: makeup, wig, fake eyelashes, dress/skirt, whatever. Unless you're super masculine, of course. Change gait, stance, etc..

Sad that we have to change ourselves just to "opt-out" of shit like this.

I agree there is such a thing as a government being too controlling, I just don't think we are there yet and I don't see it as the official agenda yet.

You want to avoid being a slave, keep your ass out of dept. Spend your entire life in dept and you are a slave all the same, plenty enough people wearing that collar already.

The government having someone they are looking for and looking among us to find them is not the same thing as simply "spying on all of us all the time". The difference is the focus, the purpose.

Still, these systems and technologies are powerful, not like Hollywood yet, but better then doing without. They also could be misused or simply used in ways that are not necessary in order to get the job done.

Our world changes and it changes fast. It's a given, that even without malicious intent, our government, because of it's size and all that we have asked that it do, will continually and even frequently do things that are wrong. In the end, the employees are still just people, fallible and imperfect, subject to greed like any others. It's more important that we be able to address these wrongs when they happen, that when laws go off the rails, we have the means to correct them. These are more important, in fact, they are more important then all the fail-safes and safeties against the slippery slopes. Sure a slippery slope can lead to an abuse or a loss, but that loss is only grievous if we can't correct it.

We'll never have a perfect system and our system will never be perfect. It can't change fast enough to keep up. There will always be wrongs and mistakes, we are just people, all of us. But it's my mind that we are all better served by worrying less about the big picture and more about your own front lawn, your own city and county. You have more say-so there, your vote and voice counts for more there. Get the right kind of people the have the right kind of game plan going at home so that they will become the majority that sends a better quality of person forward to your State and your Federal Government will slowly, as is it's way, follow suite.

That way it's not your voice trying to be heard all the way up there, but it's your voice being passed along by Mayors, Sheriffs, Governors, Representatives, and Senators. Build the foundation right, the rest has to sit on it.

That's actually Trump's scalp+toupee! That's why she's laying low, and avoiding facial recognition.

I don't know what the rest of you idiots are doing, but I wear a pantyhose on my head at all times right now.

Already out of debt and plan to stay that way.

The thing about "local being more important" is that when people vote for local stuff and then some crybabies take it to the courts and have it reversed it pretty much means that we have absolutely 0 representation and there is pretty much no point in trying to get good stuff enacted.

Hopefully this will change in the very near future once the current thugs are out of office.

In my town, we not only got rid of the traffic ticketing cameras, we passed a law that makes them illegal in the city.

Look, this election recreational pot was on the ballot in Arizona and it failed. I voted against it. The reason I voted against it is because I think it's wrong for the states to legalize something like that when the Federal Government has a problem with it. I think it sets up a lot of young people for problems if they apply for government service jobs. I know, the logic flies backwards in the face of my "bottom up" speech, but I have to be real. When I was in high school I never thought I would spend 3 years in college and then run off and join the Army and wind up spending 16 years on active duty, retire, and become a contractor working government contracts the rest of my life. I just think it would suck, as hard as young people say it is to find work, it would suck for them to have entire job market segments denied them.

I'm glad for you on the debt thing. It's hard to do but if you can get on top it makes all the difference in the world. You just can't get anywhere in the world giving someone a percentage and it's even worse trying to "live managing debt" like they have been teaching kids in school. That is the lie of slavers. There is only one way to manage debt, don't put anything on a card you can't right a check for at the end of the month. Don't get me wrong, I use credit cards, but I never carry over a balance or pay interest. Instead I use a cash back card and take the good and leave the bad.

I am not sure what "good stuff" you were trying to get enacted, but if the courts overthrew it there must have been a problem with it.

I think the best use for this technology is for a large number of people to use it. Kind of like the old "Jam Echelon Day." A collective middle-finger to the Man, so he has less data, more noise.

thats not how facial recognition works.

thats not how facial recognition works.

My Kinect didn't recognize me, so it counts.

It also works when I go to town. People don't recognize me at all. They stare a lot and I think it's because they thought they recognized me. But, they didn't. I think they were looking at the fake boobs, though. That, or my nuts hanging out from the skirt.

I just thought that the side-by-side was Sia and T-Pain. No facial recognition for you. WWWWWWHAT!

I'm going to go stealth by wearing something that makes me stand out in a crowd almost as bad as if I was on fire. Wouldn't take long to develop anti-detection detection techniques and dispatch a human to check you out, then track you from that point forward and backward. Not exactly Skynet trying to take over.
