Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, LLC. or CIRP has released new research that finds that Android users are more loyal to their platform that iOS users. They survey of 500 people shows that Android has a 91% loyalty rate while iOS loyalty is at 86%, which is as high as the research company has ever seen.

Not groundbreaking numbers, but it will be interesting to see what the future brings as far as brand loyalty.

"Android user loyalty now slightly exceeds that of iOS users," said Josh Lowitz, Partner and Co-Founder of CIRP. "Over time, Android loyalty gradually increased, as it achieved parity in availability of apps, music and video, and as the user experience on the two platforms became more similar. Android users also benefit from a wide range of phones from different manufacturers, so they can switch hardware without learning a new operating system."

I don't know if I'd call this loyalty when you really only have 2 choices.

More likely some iPhone users are tired of the Apple tax and try Android.
Meanwhile most Android users just stick to what they have because they already decided they didn't want Apple.

5% seems like within the margin of error too.

Plus with Android, you can get a standard charging/data connector (USB-C) and a headphone jack on a flagship phone.
That's part of why I quite iOS for Android and I am never going back.

When you choose iOS you've only got two phones to choose from, when you choose from any of the 100s of others phones you get Android. Not sure if bouncing between different brands of phones and custom interfaces is the same thing as loyalty just because there's android in there.

What no bar on graph for Windows fhone?? #fakenews
I'm loyal to the concept of Windows Phone; when I replaced my WP, I only installed 4 apps on the new Android :D I kind of wanted to get the Idol 4s, but I could never justify any amount of money for a new windows phone. :(

That seems like a low sample size for such a market research survey, so the difference between the two isn't that impressive. If you assume even distribution of types (250 Android Users, 250 iOS users), each user is roughly .4% (of their device type), a difference of 5% is only 13 users.

I think this isn't about Android or IOS but instead about Apples continual Price climb while Android has competition and better pricing models.

There are plenty of not cheap Android phones that aren't getting cheaper.

Family has 4 iPhones, 4 iPads, 4 Apple Watches, 2 airpod sets. How the hell do I get out of this mess without breaking the bank.

I've been able to prevent any macbook crap.

Damn, Apple propaganda sure got to your folks. The only Apple thing in my house is work iPhone which is the sole phone choice. There will never be anything Apple in my house. Friends don't get to use guest wifi either as I have set to filter Apple MACs. lol

Without breaking the bank? The next time you need new phones, don't buy Apple...? Unless you buy some overpriced 'flagship' phone, you'll already be saving $250-$750 per phone. Plenty of excellent options in the $150-$350 range.

No Apple products allowed here either. Just 3 people, 3 tablets, 3 phones, 2 laptops, 5 desktops, and numerous printers, scanners and assorted pieces :D

There are plenty of good Android phones at good prices.
There are top tier Android phones at top prices and they're selling.

BTW there are no microsoft phones, does your boss know that? Does he know microsoft is losing the long game in nearly every arena?

I would assume the difference between iOS and Android is the same with Mac and Windows. One side has little choice and higher price, the other side has lots of choices and varying prices.

I use Android but by no means do I consider myself loyal to it. It's a security nightmare at stock settings. I'm not loyal to MS either but as a cross platform between gaming and office it pretty much covers all the bases and Linux can't truly be used for all my needs. Apple, well I've pretty much run out of reasons why I would even want give them another break currently.

edit: Ultimately I'd just say the right tool for the right job. To each their own if it get's it done for them.

That right there is funny. But the benefit to Apple with having 2 daughters and a wife is that they can't really screw the products up, they are so locked down.

Food for thought. LOL.

I currently have two phones, an AT&T Lumia 950 and Verizon Galaxy Note 8, everyone knows that Windows Phones failed and most have moved on. The Lumia still works fine for basic stuff but I'll move on from it sometime in the next year. Would love to see a Surface Phone.

Yeah, I purchased a Lumia 950 refurb but, the first one had issues, returned it, the second one had bluetooth issues so I returned it for a refund. However, I have an Alcatel Idol 4s with Windows 10 Mobile and the battery life on this thing is stupid crazy. :) With the screen on all the time for just 2 hours, it only used about 13% of the battery. I have the day off an am using it for my XBox One X controls through the XBox app.

I do have my Xperia XA1 and the primary reason it is my daily driver is because of the Garmin App and my Vivoactive 3. Otherwise, my Idol 4s would be my daily driver.

I've had the 950 for two years and never had any problems with it, the battery is starting to die but hey replaceable battery! The app situation on Windows Phone is just awful now so there really wasn't much choice for me but to pick up the Note 8. I do use a lot of Microsoft's apps and it actually integrates pretty well with Windows 10 and Microsoft's ecosystem.

Except that that's false, every OEM just has to add their own shit to it. I wish that the OEMs would just leave Android alone. It's fine, it looks great... keep your dirty hands out of the damn code and keep it clean!!! Maybe then updating your devices wouldn't feel like you're trying to move heaven and earth.

I stay on iOS because I know damn well that I will get the security updates that my device needs when it needs it, just like my Windows system. I have said it before and I'll say it again, the way that Android is updated is like having to beg HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. for that Windows security update that Microsoft released six month ago and then being told "We see that you bought your system six months ago, yeah... we don't give a flying fuck about you. Buy a new system you cheapskate!!! Our CEO needs to buy a new yacht because his last one doesn't quite measure up to the one that Jeff Bezos has."

i don't you you understand what the margin of error is.
Nah I just didn't read the post. Any carrier should be able to look at their customer data and tell what the real user loyalty, not some shitty poll like the one I didn't read.

Lol, but my daughter hasn't been able to screw up her Android tablet either so it works for me. I would have been okay with iPad for tablet use but lack of memory card slot and crappy video format support just kills it for me. Personally I wouldn't buy a tablet or phone without memory card slot and I refuse to pay insane premium for built in memory. It feels like we're back 10 years ago with 128-256GB of memory costing $200. you could say I voted with my wallet (which is true).

Your logic is sound grasshopper.

Geez... the typical Android fanboys are just like those guys who drives big ass muscle cars while taking viagra.

Always constantly gotta trying to prove something.

It's no different with Apple fanboys. Fanboys are always fanboys. Regarding Android at least it doesn't have all the bullshit politics guiding the product design. Much more choice around for consumers regarding hardware, features, price, etc.
