Since when has "deserving answers" ever gotten the American public anything? That's crazy talk. The sooner you realize that giving law enforcement the authority to remotely hack anyone's computer, for any reason, is for the greater good, the better off we will all be. ;)

On December 1, a new rule will likely go into effect at the Justice Department that may expand law enforcement agencies’ authority to remotely hack into computers and take what data they find there during an investigation. Lawmakers have been pressing the DOJ for more information on the rule, specifically why the agency wants this authority, and what it plans to do with it, but they now say the folks in Justice are only providing non-answers.

Sounds like some shady ass shit. Now, if it requires a warrant to do I'd be fine with that. So long as they actually show why they feel there will be evidence on the computers. Not a "well, we think their might be stuff there cause well...they've got a computer" kind of reasoning. I feel that'll never happen though and warrants will probably be handed out like candy.

I'm confused. Someone enlightened me. Was this type of spying/invasion of privacy, wasn't it always illegal??? Like in the 50's and 60's...they did it, but it was still illegal. Can't they go back to being the spies that would be disavowed if caught? What was wrong with that system?

I thought policy was to arrest anyone who gives the American public accurate answers about domestic spying. Or at least try to.

They don't need permission because they already do it without authorization anyway. Not just in the USA either but in all of the 5 eyes countries. I know this for a fact because I am a victim of these fuckwits in Canada and the UK. Oh, and they are not doing it on behalf of the good guys either but on behalf of the bad guys.

Yeah this is what annoys me about some that post here on such subjects.

Say the UK govt publicly outlines its policy plans on surveillance and hacking powers and you get morons saying "Ohh boy the UK is like some Police State!" When they are ignoring the fact their own Govt is doing the same thing and probably more...it just isn't bothering to tell them!

As I've said before it's all about protecting the 1% and the 'main agenda', not about protecting the 99% from terrorism. The worlds resources are getting tighter, people want more and more but there will be less and less. The 1% have run the numbers and they know they have to stop the 99% suddenly wanting it all back some years from now when living standards have dropped too far.

They are looking for future political agitators and dissent so they can nip them in the bud. The last thing they want is a repeat of Eastern Europe in the early 90's when enough folks woke up one morning and said "Enough of this shit!"

This whole bunch of crap just ticks me off. If they have reasonable cause just do it, bring it on and take a look. Now if they take my naked selfies or other personal information and use them for improper viewing or gain that deserves major repercussions. If they spy on a person and find wrong doing then a laser should shoot out of there web cam and brain melting decibles come out of the headphones. This all would be fixed if we held people truely accountable, real punishment for real crime.

they will continue to gain more and more power until the citizens of this country have had enough. We desperately need a leader that will urge and empower the citizens of this fine country to stand up and take back our government.

Nah, they will have identified him or her before then and they'll be found dead hanging with a belt round their neck in their bedroom or kiddie porn planted on their laptop.

It's too late.

I made a complaint to the RCMP about them and the cop that phoned me back kept saying we don't want to see you hurt yourself, the phone cut off 4 times during our conversation and when I asked him why the phone keeps cutting off he said some bs about he guessed that is all the time he has. LOL

They are also playing the "he's crazy" angle to discredit me too.

The UK just enacted legislation of a similar nature and it will happen here at some point, it's only a matter of time really.

Don't confuse spying and intelligence Agencies with Law Enforcement, the rules are different and if you can't keep them apart in your head it will lead you into blind alleys all the time.

That's why we start with a discussion on the Department of Justice and hacking by Law Enforcement and it turns into international spying, 5 eyes countries, and talks about terrorism.

I just started reading into this and it's pretty clear to me exactly what they are asking and why.
Here is the original .pdf of the new rule change as proposed by the DoJ.
https://consumermediallc.files.wordpress.com/2016/05/proposed-amendment-rule-41.pdf

Remember that court case that was thrown out because the Judge ruled that the FBI improperly applied a warrant for a physical search and tried to make it cover their deployment of a hacking tool (NIT), onto other computers that were scattered all over, it was that case where the FBI ran that Porn site for a week.

This rule allows them to use a warrant that would have power to reach into other jurisdictions in two types of cases, one - when the location is being concealed by technological means, say IP spoofing, and two - when the computers have been "damaged" (think bot nets and such, and they are scattered all over, (across 5 or more districts). So they don't want to have to go to each district and file for separate warrants for every computer.

Do you guys see something more to this in that .pdf file? That is just a draft though, there should be a final version with different language in it somewhere.
