AMD warranty on retail CPU? (heatsink question)

Let's say you buy a retail AMD cpu and you don't use the included heatsink. What if you have to send the cpu & heatsink back to AMD? Will they see that the thermal pad on the factory heatsink has not been used and deny your warranty?

Or do you have to "melt" the pad a little to make them believe you used their heatsink?

Why not say you cleaned the CPU off for whatever reason. Say, you thought you messed up installation the first time and thought it would help you make a clean start or the AMD factory messed up and put way to much of that thick white stuff on the HS. They don't mention anything like that in their warranty do they? If you had to ask the question in the first place chances are they'll know you're up to something suspicious anyways...
