AMD Ryzen R7 1700X Is $296 @Walmart if You Use the Store Pickup Option

What about the Taichi? I am looking to build a workstation with ECC and this appears to be one of a handful that will actually use the ECC function.

Huh...well if Walmart wants to start letting me buy CPUs for $50 on a regular basis, I may just have to bite the bullet and become a customer.

Check out the QVL list for a motherboard before you buy it. If the memory you have or want isn't on the list; you're setting yourself up for a headache. Here is the one for the AsRock Killer SLi / AC.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X370 Killer SLIac/#Memory

Note that it stops at 3000 for a reason. Also here is the AMD memory compatibility list. Note that AsRock doesn't even list some of these like my Corsair 2666 16GB kit on their QVL even though AMD lists it as compatible. It defaults my memory to 2133 speeds.

I don't own the Taichi so YMMV with that board.

Good price, though tax will eat up 1/3 of that for many of us.

I just got the AsRock Killer SLi /AC. I got the 3000Mhz Team memory and it looks to be on the list.....but why does it say drops to 2933Mhz?
"Note1: Each RAM whose frequency is 3000 will downgrade to 2933 with X370 Killer SLI/ac."

All AMD AM4 motherboards when presented with 3000MHz memory will default to 2933. I think there is 2133, 2400, 2666, 2933, 3200, and a few weird things in between. They can default to an even slower speed sometimes. You have to change it in the bios to use the XMP profile or with Ryzen Master app. Sorry if I botched a number. :)

Ok, so its a system thing.....I thought it was something specific to that board. Thanks Cagey!

I mostly got the board because it I wanted Optical out and that seemed a reasonable match and price.

The 1700X is only better then the 1700 in that it has a slightly better headroom for overclocking? I got the 1700.

All of the R7 chips are about the same. The more expensive ones are binned to make a certain number. I haven't really tried to OC my 1700, but it is easy to get 3700 with all cores enabled. It takes a little effort for 3850+

Agreed. My 1700x does 3.8 no problem rock solid undervolted around 1.3v. 3.85ghz is sortaaa stable at 1.4v.

Also you dont get the CPU cooler for the 1700x, and 100 percent agree with Cagey skip the asrock killer /ac lol

Saw this posted earlier this morning on reddit. Still can't decide if I want to bite. I really don't need to, but I might just to dick around.

I have the LPX at 2666 MHZ. Max speed on mine is 3000 MHZ. CAS is running almost at advertised speeds, don't recall what it is. I don't think it was on the QVL. The BIOS updates should fix this. All AM4 boards are limited to below 3000 MHZ, and this month new BIOS updates should be rolling out to remedy this. I am running my CPU at 3.8 GHZ at 1.337 volts if I recall. I did not bother to push it further as I am waiting for newer BIOS updates. If you're worried about memory compatibility wait for Coffee Lake, or a month or two until some new BIOS come out.

Otherwise, I've had zero issues with my Killer AC SLI.

I will also mention that the Wraith cooler is fairly good. After waiting for Cryorig to send me a replacement cooler I just sent it back to Amazon. I don't think I will bother with a better cooler. Two days ago my room got to 92.5F and after 3-4 hours of non-stop ArmA3, the CPU averaged around 62C or so. Max was 72.6C. Which is fairly good. Overall my PC got a bit noisy, but still very much on the quiet side. When it is cooler, say 83F or so in the room, playing a game still won't emit much of any noise from my CPU. The Fractal Design Define S has excellent airflow and cooling.

Memory was the only issue i had with my killer, other than occasional NVMe drive issues. I could only get 2933 max on my board with trident z rgb 3200 even running the 1006 agesa. Switched over to an MSI board and its still on the older bios and i can run at my XMP timings. Hopefully they all fix this up sometime in the near future.

I think the AsRock Killer SLi / AC leaves much to be desired when it comes to memory support. I have my memory running at 2666 as advertised, but it takes "6 cycling auto restarts" for the PC to get going from a cold boot. After the restarts it will auto set the memory to 2133, but then you can go back into the bios and set it to 2666 and it will stick until you cut the PC off again.

Then when you watch Youtube videos with it at 2666 it will pause and stutter the video if you drag a mouse pointer across it. Literally jerking like I have an old PC. If I set the memory to the default of 2133 everything is peachy and beautiful. I can't wrap my head around setting my memory to a slower speed than what I paid for. Thus I'm currently not very happy with the motherboard. This is with the latest 1.0.0.6 bios on the website.

I can't think of another issue I've had with it. Well for some reason I can't access my Nexus 6 with the thing. It shows up, but is inaccessible. Not sure if that is the phone or the PC. I tried the Bluetooth, but was unsuccessful with the same phone. Again, not sure if it's the phone or the PC. (Or me! Shuush!)

I occasionally have the cycling auto restarts, after I change some hardware (plug in SATA HDD, removing one). Typically only 1. My settings have never reset, that I can recall. I have a family member with an MSI B350 board that does similar things depending on settings, and often resets. With the same Corsair LPX; the G Skill worked better in that (2933, QVL).

I think these issues will be fixed with BIOS updates. I have never updated mine yet, and I will check at the end of the month to see what there is and if they introduce any problems.

Interesting might just pick it up and sell my 1600. Looks like there are a bunch of other discounts as well even for intel processors.
