AMD Ryzen 9 3900X $419.99

I paid a few cents cheaper on March 25th for my 3900X or at least my Amazon order history says this.
 
Meh, it's been this price multiple times over the past couple months. The $399 deal posted a few days ago was actually good.
 
I suspect we'll see it go even lower, closer the $389 MC's have it at now, and I wouldn't be surprised if it drops closer to $375 or $350 once 4000 series hits shelves.
 
i got my 1700x for $105 it was $1000 when it was released. I will upgrade to 3900x or 3950x when it goes pretty much around $100. it would take 2 AMD cylcle release to do that but its ok for my use it will be enough. tech people are reporting that the last am4 socket will be 2021 then a new amd socket will come out, by then all socket am4 will drop prices

Glad I am not the only one to question that. It will be a long long time till we see anyone selling the 3900x for $100. Maybe 5 years down the line if performnace of newer CPUs grows quite a bit over the next few years.
 
It was only $410 on Amazon (unless it sold out already)... Pretty bad a$$ CPU for $400.

I never expect them to be that cheap unless you're buying used. Its not like there's going to be tons of old stock, sure the price will come down with newer generations but there is going to be prices people will bite on and gobble up existing stock well before it gets to the $100 price point. Then you better hope you have the mother board and ram for it
 
If the 3950x hits a planned generational / upgrade limit from AMD, it'll never hit that low unless it's 10+ years later, and at that point it won't make any sense to purchase it. Look at 3770k, 4790k, or 7700k prices. They're still extremely expensive for what they are simply based on the fact that they're the end of the upgrade path for that hardware and in most instances it makes more sense to purchase something new.

I'm curious where you are that a 1700x was $1000 when it released. My launch 1700 was about $320 and I think the 1700X was $399 MSRP.

I'm likely gonna bite on a 3900X for about $350, but if I can find a 3950X for $500 or less before I find a 3900X for $350 i'll likely bite. That's the end of the line for my particular motherboard and that'll be more than good enough for me for a while.
 
Sure this is in part to smack down Intel ... but I'd also guess that the pending 4xxx release is another likely reason they will want to start clearing inventory. The 4900x will likely slot at the same pricepoint as the 3900x did ($499), but with better performance.
 
When i can get a zen 3 12 or 16 core for $200 new or used, I'll upgrade my 2700x. I expect two or three years and microcenter black friday sale to get that low, though.

The 2700x isn't really holding me back at 1440p and it is still competitive with the current gen of six core chips from AMD and Intel.

I got my 2700X last year with the full intention on upgrading to Zen 2 once it dropped but its performed so well for me at 3440x1440p that I don't think I'd see much benefit either at that res upgrading the CPU so I'm sticking with it until I see those prices at least too. $200 is about as much as I'd want to spend on a CPU that's going to only be used for gaming 90% of the time as well.
 
I love me some Micro Center. Last 2 Black Fridays they've had 1700X for $119 and 2700X for $129. I'm hoping we see the 3700X for $129ish this Black Friday. If so, I'm going to snag one for my main gaming rig (4k projector; 60fps), which I don't see needing to upgrade for many, many years. I'm currently using a 3600X, which has been fantastic, but with the upcoming consoles going 8/16, I think the upgrade will suit my needs for at least 5 years. Only gaming at 60 fps has its advantages.

Actually not, after 2 years past release date depreciation should yield 40% off msrp. Only a impulse buyer doesn't factor in depreciation.
 
I'm coming from a 4770k on Z97 Extreme6 -> 3900x on Crosshair VI (x370). I chose that board because it was $100 after combo discount @ MC. It's old & won't support Zen3, but if I"m keeping this for ~ 5-7 years I don't really care. if 3950x scaled in price (eg + 33% or $517) I would have bought that. $699 is too much on a $/core basis. 3900x @ $389 at MC with board combo discount nails it nicely.

I feel like the jump from 3600X to 3700X isn't going to give you that big of a boost, certainly not any kind of future proofing. You might find in highly threaded games, but it'll be a while still before 16 threads are utilized for most. I'd suggest maybe waiting for the 3000XT series to drop, and see what you can get for the same money - especially if you are planning to sell the 3600X.

I should have stated the 3600X rig will be taking the place of my family room Ryzen 1600 with a 1060 3GB. I'll throw that on Facebook/Craigslist for like $350-400 so the 3700X upgrade won't cost me much at all. I'm not going to do it unless Micro Center has a crazy Black Friday deal like they have the last 2 years.
