AMD Ryzen 1700X on the [H] Test Bench

By the way, does Microcenter allow someone to just walk in a buy up all the motherboards without a cpu purchase? Guess I am slightly concerned that someone will walk in, buy up all the boards that are in stock and try to flip them for a profit?
they generally limit to one per purchase

Seems like Motherboard\Bios according to Asus statements.
And 2 Dimms seems to be unaffected( as in fixed) using 1-3 ( out of 0-4) dimm slots.

To begin with I saw march 2nd for all here in Norway for launch, now it's almost 7th+ for everything.

Does this ram speed issue only impact Asus boards? Or all ryzen boards?

You guys may not want to cancel your pre-orders.

I think the ship date listed on the product pages is when you get it if you order it *now*. Those who ordered previously should get on their original date

Now if your order status page lists something different I guess that's a different story

^^ Exactly

I also noticed Amazon is now showing March 2nd again for the 1800X when I look at my pre-order.

FYI, Amazon is currently accepting some more preorders on the 1800x now. I was able to switch my preorder to them to take advantage of prime for 2day shipping.

Havent been keeping up with ryzen, but is it comparable to a z170 setup using a 6700k or is it faster or slower.

I would love to jump ship back to amd, bring back some good memories.

So is ryzen capable of giving the above setup a run for its money or will it be slower or faster ?

It's not out yet wait a couple days and we'll know more than handpicked benchmarks.

OK, I'm quite confused. Are the NDAs getting dropped tomorrow and reviews supposed to start showing up then or is all that not until the launch on Thursday?

It seems the NDA lift date is NDA... So it's still up in the air whether reviews will land tomorrow or the 2nd.

What a dumb rule. An NDA on the NDA. lol now I've heard it all.

Not really dumb, cause depending on what the NDA is about, sometimes a company doesn't even want to let their competitors know they are talking to someone lol, in this case there is very little merit.......

Yup. Tech companies love doing it though. Same vein as, we are going to be making a big announcement on X date! Oh that day has come, which is an announcement for our reveal of our new product coming in XYZ!!!

My MSI Titanium board is said to ship 03/07/2017. Of course I would liked it all on day one, but that allowed me to order all the other parts with the cheapest Newegg shipping and still get them all in time.

It's not out of the ordinary at all that part of an NDA says you cannot disclose you are even part of the program. It's to stop people from saying "I know stuff but can't say anything".

I was just recently informed about this processor. I am going to give it a shot. I have not used AMD in years.

Perhaps they are timing the NDA to their Capsaicin event today. Rumor has been that it wont just be a Radeon event and I don't know what else they can do for Ryzen without completely opening the kimono.

I know that seems like more thought than AMD usually puts into marketing but they do seem to be trying to get their act together.

Only those who paid for overnight shipping will be getting anything for the weekend.

The rest of us have to wait until next week.

... Ryzen without completely opening the kimono...

If Lisa comes out and completely opens up her Kimono, i will NEVER buy another AMD product again!

EDIT: Well, I guess I should wait for Kyle's review first, before watching. :cautious:

Understood. However, for me, I preordered at Newegg and Microcenter. I am going to pick up my preorder from Microcenter with a motherboard and therefore, I just went ahead and cancelled my Newegg pre order.

Kyle on stage @ Capsaicin talking about engines that are taking advantage of the 8c/16t... especially VR.

I guess we'll see where it falls short and where it excels when he can post his results!

I don't think his presence on stage was in the works weeks ago. I believe he finished his review , it was a big thumbs up, he communicated that to AMD and that is why he is on stage today. Relationship mended and strengthened.

That is pure speculation. Totally unfounded and possibly completely false.

I hope the review is positive as I have already put down 1.5 g's on hardware around a ryzen upgrade mind you. But it could be a poor showing.

Having read a lot of Kyle & Co for many years I expect the usual no-bullshit review that I've become accustomed to. I have hopes that AMD/RTG comes out looking good but the reason why I wait for the reviews here is because of the earned reputation of honesty (brutal or otherwise).

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I imagine based on what we've seen, multi-threaded scenarios Ryzen 1700-1800x is going to shine above the 4-8 core i7s, while less threaded games (which to be fair should be a thing of the past) are going to show some weaknesses (which we all kind of assumed). I don't think it'll be Bulldozer all over again, but I don't think it is Slot A/Socket A/Socket 939 2nd coming.

Don't get me wrong, I really do hope it's everything we all hope it is and I'm keeping my pre-order because everything I am doing as of late can take advantage of the extra cores over my Skylake 6700k.

I never said it was fact. I stated it was my belief. That was based on Kyle's ambivalence if he was going to get a review kit. If his stage appearance was planned weeks ago,AMD would have made sure his review kit was amongst the first sent out. It is NOT proof, but it falls in line with the events that transpired. I am not implying anything about Kyle. If you give my remarks a careful reading you will see that their is no inuendo. I like Kyles passion and the way he runs this forum allowwing free expression as long as it does not degenerate into open animosity. I love this website and wish him the best. I am happy he is on good terms with AMD. Kyle would never in a million years torpedo or praise a product he did not believe in. He is committed to the users here and wants to only be honest in his assessments. That is what probably got him into a strain with AMD when he went thumbs down or Bulldozer/Piledriver. He was right to do so . It had a inadequate architecture and should have been quite better.

Sorry that was meant to be said with a bit of humor and a nod. Yes I understand. No I don't think you're wrong. I'm betting the opposite with my dollars that the Ryzen is amazing. ;)
