A while ago AMD announced their 7nm NAVI based graphics cards, the Radeon RX 5700 and 5700 XT at 379 and 449 USD. AMD today has sent an email to certain media and their partners indicating that they are lowering the price prior to launch. Radeon RX 5700 is to cost 349 USD and 399 USD for the XT model.
The drop in price is, of course, a logical reaction, perhaps we should even call it an allergic reaction, towards NVIDIA who this week announced their SUPER model GeForce RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080. These products seem to sit smack down on top of the NAVI products and should be close to their performance, yet offering RT and tensor cores for roughly the same amount of money.
lol.. insta panic button (cut prices) even before the launch?.. that's actually sad..
As a consumer how can you even think like that? Would a price increase satisfy your desires instead?lol.. insta panic button (cut prices) even before the launch?.. that's actually sad..
Was it sad that Intel did the same thing with the Ryzen 3000?lol.. insta panic button (cut prices) even before the launch?.. that's actually sad..

Welcome to how businesses work.

https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-chip-price-cuts-amd-competition-2019-6Intel did what? The only thing they announced was further binned 9900K, and that really doesn't matter at all, so AMD and nearly everyone else just ignored it.
NVidia is actually a fairly fierce competitor, Intel is is big slow to respond ship.

Price makes or breaks a product, AMD knows this, pricing Navi more competitively is a win for us as consumers and probably a win for AMD vs launching it at a price no one will buy.

Nothing sad about any of this really. But AMD was not doing this for any other reason than that they had to.
Would have been cool if these prices were the original launch prices. As is, Nv forced these prices.
You are clearly not paying attention. The cards aren't for sale yet. The new prices are the launch prices. No one got shafted, everyone gets a better deal.Basically AMD buyers got a reacharound from the leatherjacket.
True, however if the leaks regarding the Ryzen 3000 series performance are accurate, Intel will almost assuredly need to cut prices in response, so personally this rumor seems pretty likely. That's an unsubstantiated rumor (that only says Intels is considering price cuts). So Intel hasn't done anything, and isn't even rumored to have done anything. Just rumored to be considering, doing something.

I think Intel will take a stronger stance when/if they start losing OEM marketshare.Intel tends to sacrifice market share rather than lower prices. Even when something from Intel themselves passes it completely, like 8700k vs 7700k, intel kept selling 7700k for full price.
Also Ryzen 2000 already took the DIY desktop market from them and they didn't react. I'll believe when I see Intel admit it.
Translation: “Oops we overpriced the cards because we only react to the market leader”.
