AMD RX 5700 to be cheaper

Wish it was Polaris-style pricing... but at this point I am grateful to our video card overlords for letting us peasants save a few bucks.

Nvidia, with their Super announcements, really pooped in AMD's cornflakes.

But then again AMD did the same thing to Intel, so ...

lol.. insta panic button (cut prices) even before the launch?.. that's actually sad..

if we're assuming this is true...
price adjustments would have been a contingency all along- if the internet knew about RTX Super months and months ago (even if not then exact details) then of course AMD knew more. AMD and NV are just playing their games again

if this and the leaked review on videocardz is true, Navi 10 maybe looking pretty good. if true that places AMD ahead on perf/$ and perf/w in the mid-end for the first time in a while

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/a...navi-cards349-usd-and-399-for-the-xt-usd.html

A while ago AMD announced their 7nm NAVI based graphics cards, the Radeon RX 5700 and 5700 XT at 379 and 449 USD. AMD today has sent an email to certain media and their partners indicating that they are lowering the price prior to launch. Radeon RX 5700 is to cost 349 USD and 399 USD for the XT model.

The drop in price is, of course, a logical reaction, perhaps we should even call it an allergic reaction, towards NVIDIA who this week announced their SUPER model GeForce RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080. These products seem to sit smack down on top of the NAVI products and should be close to their performance, yet offering RT and tensor cores for roughly the same amount of money.

Go go fightingfi use some quotes next time buddy ;)

Well it is still for the blower version but something is better then nothing ;)

A lower price to me make the 5700XT more interesting for sure.
BUT ! i am more interested in seeing what launch drivers Vs what ever used for the CES release can do.
As i understand AMD are not stellar on release drivers.
BUT ! if they have been or if hardware are that good, then if i was in charge i would have done CES with poor drivers and so mediocre performance, and then on release have a driver / hardware combo that are like 25 % better or maybe a little more,,,,,, and that would make Navi a WHOLE LOT more interesting to a lot of people.
And then AMD would be pooping in Nvidias nest too, and that would be really nice if that was to happen.

And AMD could go :p we managed to wrangle a little more performance out of our product with drivers, and a statement like that would reverberate thru the industry.

As a consumer how can you even think like that? Would a price increase satisfy your desires instead?
Like what are you on about?

Was it sad that Intel did the same thing with the Ryzen 3000?

Welcome to how businesses work.

Nothing sad about any of this really. But AMD was not doing this for any other reason than that they had to.

Would have been cool if these prices were the original launch prices. As is, Nv forced these prices.

Intel did what? The only thing they announced was further binned 9900K, and that really doesn't matter at all, so AMD and nearly everyone else just ignored it.

NVidia is actually a fairly fierce competitor, Intel is is big slow to respond ship.

The 5700 wasn’t going to beat a 2060 Super at $400 so this makes sense. This will force a few reviews to get updated and allow the 5700XT to claim the $400 crown while the 5700 takes the (non existent) crown at $350.

Price makes or breaks a product, AMD knows this, pricing Navi more competitively is a win for us as consumers and probably a win for AMD vs launching it at a price no one will buy.

AMD usually leaves it $50-100 too high for a few months to scalp the faithful. Dropping it up front is a good thing.

Still needs another $50 off imo but at least they are in the ballpark.

That's an unsubstantiated rumor (that only says Intels is considering price cuts). So Intel hasn't done anything, and isn't even rumored to have done anything. Just rumored to be considering, doing something.

NVidia OTOH, actually released a product aimed squarely at AMD, that was reviewed a couple of days before AMDs launch.

IMO this is why AMD will always have a harder time competing against NVidia. NVidia is a fierce competitor. Intel seems like a massive bureaucracy, that reacts in slow motion.

Basically AMD buyers got a reacharound from the leatherjacket.
You are clearly not paying attention. The cards aren't for sale yet. The new prices are the launch prices. No one got shafted, everyone gets a better deal.

True, however if the leaks regarding the Ryzen 3000 series performance are accurate, Intel will almost assuredly need to cut prices in response, so personally this rumor seems pretty likely.

Intel tends to sacrifice market share rather than lower prices. Even when something from Intel themselves passes it completely, like 8700k vs 7700k, intel kept selling 7700k for full price.

Also Ryzen 2000 already took the DIY desktop market from them and they didn't react. I'll believe when I see Intel admit it.

I think Intel will take a stronger stance when/if they start losing OEM marketshare.

Translation: “Oops we overpriced the cards because we only react to the market leader”.
