AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT picture and specs leaked

Official specs and prices dropped. Still intrigued at 499 msrp if it benches
 
Looks like I'll be waiting for 7nm nvidia parts after all. (on the assumption big navi is just as average)

Discussed in a thread the other day- basically, it's been found that after AMD has released a new architecture in the past, they've taken some time to get the drivers up to speed. This is corroborated by AMD's new architectures usually coming with a margin of underperformance relative to their specs, to the infuriation of The Faithful all around.

Several generations later, with significant driver overhauls, the older parts start to show improvement. Granted they've long since been obsoleted but it's a talking point.

Unfortunately, given how good AMD's drivers have been lately versus the majority of the time that AMD has owned ATi, and that RDNA doesn't look like a large departure from GCN versus GCN to its predecessor, 'fine wine' is unlikely to apply. It may- but that only means that AMD's release drivers have regressed in quality. Further, you're looking at a solidly middle-of-the-pack part here, unlike say the R9 290, so if the drivers do improve substantially, these 5700 (XT) cards will be solidly slotting into the old / loud / hot / power-hungry entry-level market against newer, more efficient parts from AMD themselves as well as Nvidia and likely Intel.

I do recommend reading up on what AMD had to say about it when they were asked whether Navi is GCN. I'm paraphrasing, but basically they said that while they changed the guts, the external interface of the parts to drivers / software was GCN. I don't really know what that means either, but it seems to imply that their drivers won't change drastically.

No they don't, which is why they are a flop. Vega is a flop, we know this, but RTX has been a failure. The question is why are you still selling them?

But remember that Sapphire marketing guy who spilled the beans, he essentially outed these products exactly, and priced them at $500 and $400.

Though it may have been adjusted since then, or AMD may wait until closer to launch to see what NVidia is doing.
