Thin and lights need that low power profile. Larger gaming notebooks and desktop do not. Socket based parts will come next year and I bet they would have to have HBM2. Why not if you are not worried about power?

Well, I don't think these make a whole lot of sense to pair with a dgpu - they're on par with a 940m dgpu but in igpu form. For more power than that it would be a waste of die space and power to use this type of igpu setup with a dpgu as lall of those gpu cores would be wasted. It'd make more sense to pair with a discrete Vega+HBM2 because all of the advanced power throttling is already there in Vega so it wouldn't use much extra power to have it handle all gpu related tasks as, unless gaming, most of the chip would be shut off. These are meant to give thin and lights some extra gpu power, not put in a gaming laptop with a dgpu.

The Intel setup with Vega+HBM2 is, I think obviously, for macs. I doubt we'll see it in much of anything else. I do think we may see an AMD version of it with a full 8c/16t R7 for gaming/workstation laptops sometime next year. That would be a heck of a machine and with a slightly downclocked and good silicon (binned for power consumption) version of the R7 1700 would fit in a gaming laptop power envelope.

This is a new type of HBM implementation; smaller GPU component, smaller memory component, and not the fire-breathing implementations we've seen in top-end AMD discrete GPU applications, and it's attached to an MCM with an Intel CPU.

This makes it both a) very cool and b) difficult to compare. It's basically in a class of it's own.

It's also not terribly special from a technology standpoint; the GPU could just have easily been Nvidia, or hell, Intel, should they desire to make the requisite investment. What is special is that a mobile product using this hybrid MCM will likely be as fast as some of the lower end discrete solutions out there (likely with an Intel/Nvidia combo), while either a) having more battery life or b) being more compact, or c) some combination of both. That's a win/win for consumers if price isn't out of control.

    RyZen mobile die shot

Half the L3 cache and 11CUs as some of us expected. But I only can identify a DDR4 channel in the die. Where is the second channel?

Don't say me that Ryzen APU is single channel because there is only one CCX.

What? it's dual channel with 10CU's for 2700u, 8CU's for 2500u (they have 11, but only use 8 or 10 for yield).

The HP Envy laptop has ended its sale, but Anandtech says they will be getting a review sample. Although tbh, maybe retail samples would be better to review, but oh well.

Ive been waiting for these ryzen / vega combo forever. Saw that HP posted for $735 and said screw it. Bought an HP Omen I7-7700HQ + RX 580 8gb. while i wanted a more portable laptop then this Omen, but i cant believe how beast it is at gaming for $949. Ran all my VR stuff flawless. even higher FPS then my desktop ryzen 7 + 1080s in mechwarrior online.

Averages $1.56 a day with nicehash legacy (cpu + rx580) 72C default settings

AnandTech probably sent someone to buy it from the nearest Best Buy.

Been stringing out my travel laptop for over a decade now lol... C2D, 2Gb ram, SSD.

This might finally get me to upgrade, don't care for mobile gaming, so it's more than enough grunt.

Confirmed. The above annotated die and other similar as the next one from chip-architect are incorrect

    The correct annotated die is

Using this as reference, we can find the pair of DDR channels on the mobile RyZen die.

I got a laptop with the 2500U in it. So far it's doing fairly well.

I had all 8 threads loaded 100% on it, but I think it caused the system to shutdown on me. Running 4 threads 100% hasn't caused any problems so far.

Going to have to wait till the 23rd before I will run some benchmarks on it. The laptop is currently running some CPU intensive projects for me.

Did it shut down while plugged in or on Battery? Supposedly 25 watt TDP which I imagine is full turbo all cores loaded is designed to be on external power.

Plugged in. I cranked the number of cores up to 62.5% which is 5 cores right after making that post. No issues. Now I cranked it up to 75% which is 6 cores. Gonna let it run for a few hours see how she does.

Can you check the laptop from time to time for heat from ventilator or just the case, please?

I am using Core Temp to monitor temps. With the CPU running 100% on 75% of the cores it's hovering around 84 - 88C with a ~23C ambient temp. The bottom of the laptop is very, very warm.

Picked two up last night (one for me and one for the wife), the 1TB mechanical that comes with it is a huge let down coming from a Razer Blade Stealth.

That being said it looks fairly trivial to swap in a NVMe drive and add another 8gb of ram (swap out the 2 4gb sticks). Will do before and after benchmarks.

Those last two links work, but the first one says

Yeah I was pretty impressed, overall once I get the 960 EVO in here it'll be the nicest laptop I've ever owned.

About 2063 Firestrike is about the same as an O/C'd A12-9800 so not too bad at all. Timespy should be around 780 points for your 2500u. AMD rates the 2700u at 915 points, which seems accurate.

He had 2x4 gb in it so it was already dual channel. Curious to know the speed, though.

Very impressive benchmarks. Is that the HP Envy? I can't find a decent photo of it, does it have num pad and separate ins, del, home, end keys?

    Easy?

Doesn't look to be. Seems you have to take the entire laptop apart to get inside of it anywhere. Haven't done that so I'm not sure how easy or difficult it is.

Night and day difference - highly recommend either ordering it from HP with an NVMe or doing the install/migration yourself after the fact.
