Chump change?

"Compared with Intel, AMD doesn’t have as much of a semiconductor manufacturing burden. It is more nimble and light after divesting manufacturing operations and the massive investments needed to build and maintain a competitive foundry business. On the flip side, when the boom comes, AMD chipmaking partners will make hay and demand higher prices for their in-demand services.

For Intel employees currently enduring pay cuts, subsidies from multiple governments worldwide should help make the largest Intel investments successful in their respective locations. Intel also cut its long-standing dividend to free more cash for investment amidst its belt-tightening exercises, and also recently told employees that it will reverse its pay cuts later this year. That means that, as the cycle turns, the lean times could be followed by times of plenty, especially if Intel's drastic turnaround plan, which includes a pivot to the IDM 2.0 model, comes to fruition."

Bonuses are actually small - in comparison last proxy from INTC ('22 for '21) peers were receiving north of $1.5M and Pat around $5M in cash bonus alone, which is in line with the norm for companies of similar size which performed reasonably well. From that my conclusion is that the recession is hitting AMD as well, and top exec pay certainly reflects it.

In the end went to check AMD now :D, and their S16 officers are paid north of $600k in terms of base pay, with 125% bonus opportunity, so in a normal year - not overperforming, they would be making about $800k. Based on this article they will make less than half of target for last 12 months, implying that the company missed badly.

Imply means nothing, you can just look at the latest quarterly for your answer. They didn't miss anything let alone badly. Beat by .02. As far as the semi sector as a whole - yeah it's very sensitive to economics and down over the year. Not really surprising at all - just old news there. The most surprising thing of late is the radical Intel dividend cut that Gelsinger declared "safe" not too long ago. Just shows you all you need to know about what he says.

That is the story for the street, as usual - the best light possible, but if you look at exec pay - which is tied to company performance, it is quite clear how they did against targets.

I do agree that macroeconomic situation is poor moving towards abysmal, and that is reflected across the industry, AMD included.

The street knows the answer - you can just look at the relative stock performance.

The only reason they beat it is because in October they lowered their target by 20%.

Another clickbait article trying to manufacture outrage. Absolutely nothing wrong with the bonuses they are receiving but the writers know that when their readers hear about "bonuses" it activates the mob.

Did you even read the article? The article is not about bonus(es) outrage.
