AMD confirms Ryzen and Vega launch timetables.

During the fourth quarter earnings call today, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that the consumer Ryzen CPU lineup will be launching in early March. The server based lineup is code named Naples and will launch in the second quarter of 2017. The AMD Zen based APU code named Raven Ridge is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2017. And finally the Vega GPU lineup will launch in the second quarter of 2017. Who is ready for the new AMD CPU and GPU hardware to install into the AM4 motherboards showcased earlier? Lisa Su even hinted that they were working on 7nm technology and there is a Zen 2 & Zen 3 in development!



“There will be widespread system availability from day one,” Su said during the call. Channel vendors will receive the first Ryzen chips, along with system integrators. More traditional hardware vendors will come later, Su added.

That statement implies that vendors like Dell or HP (neither of which have been officially confirmed to be using the Ryzen chip) will be asked to wait, while AMD caters to boutique PC vendors. Ryzen will take on Intel’s highest-end Core chips, specifically the Core i5 and Core i7 processors, Su said.

Shoot. Was hoping for availability and reviews before end of Feb. I have a 4 day weekend at the end of the month. Was hoping to build a system then. :p
 
Not that I want one, but I will be interested in what kind of graphics power they sneak in on those new APU's.

Maybe one or two of those new server chips make for a sweet workstation CPU.

Same here as I was waiting to see whether I could go this route or have to go with annoying Intel and their cynical approach.
But if they manage a good solid launch early March then I am happy to wait just over 4 weeks.

The Vega GPUs would be faster than your 680SLi but not sure about CPU. You got a pretty mean clock on the 3960X
 
I'm trying to be excited about this, I really am. I don't think I'll ever see the second coming of the T-bird, but I want to believe AMD still has it in them to at least remind Intel that they have real competition out there.
 
Dude my birthday is over the weekend of the 27th and that's why I took the 4 day weekend off. I could put it off and have them change the days for me at work but who knows that could bite me just as easily. Too many unknowns.

IMA be patient on this and if in early March it turns out this is a good enough deal to get over the 7700K or 6800K. And there aren't major issues with the motherboards. Parts availability. I'll just do it over a weekend.

i mean they have every opportunity here to prove otherwise.. intel hasn't innovated shit when it comes to their processors, under all the feature changes it's basically the same i7 920 they released 7-8 years ago. so lets see if AMD decided to go a different route and found something that works. we need that competition because when 5 year old intel processors are still selling for 150+ dollars there's something wrong.

The weekend is not good enough for me because it is a 3 hour trip to the nearest Microcenter. (Road trip for me.) Also, I am an avid and somewhat competitive distance runner and have the Shamrock run 8K in Buffalo on March 4th to do. Just figure a road trip will be fun to do.
 
Dear AMD: I5 2500k owner here that will buy your chip if you can finally give Intel a reason to get off their arse and compete for business instead of being the default option.

Don't disappoint.
 
Enterprise: For VMWare and other per-socket licenses, 32 cores is a huge huzzah. For Microsoft 2016 and other per-core licenses.... feh. Really, just a 'feh' for Microsoft for so many reasons.
 
Good that AMD has given us a rough timetable -- if it really is all that (with the price to boot), I'll have time to budget the greenbacks for a whole new rig.

This is so painfully true. If priced right I could see these selling well with IBM, Amazon, MS, Google. Some of those companies more than others.
 
Why do they keep on pushing it back? I was sure i read somewhere it was supposed to be end of feb for ryzen and march for vega. Now it's pushed back at least a month on zen and another or two on vega.
Is this going to be a paper launch?
 
I want AMD's products to do well as it benefits everyone to have 2 competitive CPU manufactures. Lower prices, more innovation. However I won't be interested in any CPU from any vendor for several years, unless it can cook my breakfast and do my laundry, as I am currently using a 6700k and plan on keeping it until 2019 or later.

Dan/Kyle, normal write up’s consist of “it works as advertised” but things being what they are was wondering if you guys could put the chipsets thru the paces, as in say two M.2 drives in raid going head to head with Intel's chipset etc.

these are the first official dates AMD has given, anything you heard before this were rumors.
 
Waiting for the server parts PLEASE BE UNLOCKED. I NEED 16 CORES AND I NEED THEM FAST.
 
I really, really hope that the IMC on these rocks, especially since they only support dual channel.

maybe some random ES models but doubt production server parts will be unlocked. doesn't make any sense for them to do it.
 
Here's something: read the joined year of the people commenting in this thread. AMD, do you have any idea how much goodwill have you amassed with some of the hardest core ...?

amd tends to do shit like this. r9 290, meh feel free to unlock the extra cu's. fury, meh feel free to unlock cu's. i also dont belive they have had any locked cpu's in awill. their mangy chips were unlocked and i see no reason they would go out of their way to lock their new chips. they need every advantage they can get and if someone wants to dish out the money for a server chip i highly dought they would prohibit that. and lets remember intel has had a significant amount of unlocked chips. westmere ftw!

as for the cards i need 490s asap as i want them. all of them or maybye like 4 as thats all i can afford if i sell al my 290's curently mining.
