Yes it does uninstall the old
Not really. Just installing the newest drivers on top of the old will leave a conflict between the old files and the new files. And because the structure of the new drivers is now completely different from the old drivers, AMD (and especially ASUS) recommend that you manually uninstall the older driver before you install the newest AMD driver.

At first I did an in-place update, and my benchmark scores plummeted. Wiping out the older driver and then reinstalling the newer driver from scratch restored my system's performance.

Is this the only thing I need to uninstall? I'm brand new to this platform.

Did anyone see any performance increases in Cinebench or anything?

I installed these within 24 hours of when they released. So far so good for me. Out!

Thanks! Is there a changelog? I don't see one.

I downloaded and installed the update the day it premiered on the site. No change on my end either. Still, good to have the newest chipset driver all the same. Out!

The new chipset drivers gave me like 50% more performance on my OC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really; ran exactly the same in my tests and now I'm updated... we can dream tho right?

Yeah I d/led and updated. I can feel the difference when I close my eyes, but everything seems the same when I look at the screen.

An easy way to know if it uninstalls the old driver is 1) Use Device Manager to manually uninstall (and check to delete) drivers for a single Motherboard Component which has been updated between versions. You'll eventually hit a wall where you can't go back any further. If you install 1 chipset driver then another, then hit the wall you know it didn't uninstall the prior. 2) You can also use a program like Driver Store Explorer before and after the install to see what drivers are listed for the component.

Option 2 is probably the easiest to do as it don't require reinstalling drivers to fix what you've undone.

Dont seem to be any changes really, but they did provide an official Windows 11 link.

Guru3D mentions some other bug fixes, I dont get where they got that info though. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/amd-chipset-drivers-download.html
Hmm, seems like they havent updated that page fulle, as some of the version numbers are old. Could be previous fixes.

I would probably expect some new chipset drivers soon, considering the CPU performance degradation on Windows 11 with AMD CPUs and the official launch of Windows 11, unless that is something MS need to fix in their OS...

was a known issue and already being worked on. should get an update via windows update soon and i would assume a driver pack too...

New chipset drivers are out. I believe Windows 11 performance is restored with the newest insider build and this driver.

huh look at that, they said the 21st for new drivers and there they are.

anyone updating, remember to remove the old one first.

That's always good advice. In my case however, I installed them over the top of the old drivers and have not had any issues so far.
Huh, never thought to do that. If I remember later I’ll do that.
i read that amd was recommending it but i just looked and they state if the existing driver is really old, then uninstall first. i guess i had it bit wrong and it just became habit....

"In most cases, the simple process of installing or upgrading the AMD Ryzen chipset drivers can be completed without issues. However, if there have been recent changes to your system hardware configuration or the currently installed chipset drivers are extremely outdated, then it is recommended to uninstall the existing chipset drivers before installing the new package. Performing the uninstall ensures a clean system and can help reduce issues or conflicts which may occur with the new installation."
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/f...essfully, click Finish to exit to the Desktop.

Just installed what Terje_P reported in his post a couple of days ago. Not a bad driver if you ask me. So far, so quite good. Out!

A week old by now, but I don' t think people check for new drivers all that often.

Release Highlights

  • New program support added.
  • Six new drivers added.
  • Fixed pop-up message "AMD Chipset Software is not responding" when the installer is launched and UI screen is clicked.

Curious what these "six new drivers" mean. Or is it only applicable to new chipsets?

Those are the "new drivers". Have no clue if these install on all platforms or just the ones that apply. But as they have USB 4.0 drivers now; they are likely preparing for AM5 later this year.
